He started off his beautiful journey with the Delhi Daredevils and stayed with the team for 3 years, amassing humongous runs across all the matches.

In 2011, he was roped in by KKR and made skipper with immediate effect. This was probably the turning point in his career. He took the responsibility with great pride and led from the front, scoring 378 runs in 15 innings. This was also the first time KKR qualified for the top 4.
The next year, Gautam Gambhir returns to KKR as a Mentor and he took the team to glory and helped KKR win their first-ever IPL title. Scoring 590 runs in the tournament, he took the season by storm and showcased his prime form.
KKR (Kolkata Knights Rider) flourished as a team under his captaincy, also securing its second IPL title in 2014. 2015, 2016, and 2017 again saw a great performance by the then KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir, with all the times KKR qualifying for the playoffs.
The cricket pandits were all praise for Gautam Gambhir, not only for his batting but for his demeanor as a captain.
2017 saw this 7-year-old relationship break with Gambhir joining Delhi Daredevils again. But something was off, as he played only 5 games and benched himself.
2022 saw the Delhi Starboy join the Lucknow Super Giants as a mentor until this year, 2023.

Now, with the 2024 IPL around the corner, the Delhi batting star is back with KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders) as a mentor, reminiscing about his old days with the most successful team of his career.
“This is back to where it all started. Today, there is a lump in my throat and a fire in my heart as I think about slipping into that purple and golden jersey once again.”
He said the team is exciting, and this move by KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders) will definitely result in some favorable and exciting tournaments.
