Former Players Slam Umpiring Blunder in DC vs RR: The match between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals ended in controversy as two important decisions by the TV umpire played a pivotal role in Delhi’s win.
RR skipper Sanju Samson continued his swashbuckling form in this IPL with another thunderous half-century. The wicketkeeper-batter played a captain’s innings, and it felt like Sanju would steer RR to the winning shore.
Then came the turning point of the match. Sanju hit the ball for six, but DC’s Shai Hope caught him at the boundary line. The fielder’s leg seemed to be touching the boundary line from a certain angle, but the TV umpire was in a rush and called it out within a minute. The close call shifted the entire momentum of the game.
Another one came in the last ball of the 19th over when Rasikh Salam threw a wide yorker. On the screen, it seemed like it was wide, but when the TV umpire was asked to show a different angle, the footage of the previous delivery was shown, which was a legal one.

Those two decisions cost RR the match, according to former pace sensation Irfan Pathan.
“This decision changed the momentum of the game in Delhi’s favor. The TV umpire should have taken time before making a call. It looked like the foot of the fielder had touched the boundary rope. It was a close call, and the official should have checked it from different angles,” Zaheer Khan said.
India’s former allrounder Suresh Raina also criticized umpires for not following the right procedure during reviews.
“He didn’t use different angles to come to a conclusion. Such calls need time, but the TV umpire didn’t follow the right procedure,” Suresh Raina said.
