First, they lost a Test series at home for the first time in 12 years, losing 3-0 to New Zealand in October. Then came the 3-1 loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, India’s first Test series loss to the Aussies in a decade.
But it has not only been the on-field failures that have made these times tumultuous for the team under the management of head coach Gautam Gambhir but also off-the-field drama.
Most notably, a few details about backstage flare-ups emerged during the BGT. Rumours and reports emerged that Gambhir had chastised the entire team following the loss in the fourth Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Reports also emerged that a senior player might have asked for the captaincy instead of an out-of-form Rohit Sharma.
All this drama seems to have now come to a crescendo, as News24 has reported that it was none other than batter Sarfaraz Khan who is believed to have leaked all the behind-the-scenes news to the media.
While it’s impossible to confirm without revealing some private conversations, leaking such controversial news to the media is definitely a no-no. All this is reminiscent of the last time the Indian Cricket Team underwent such drama under Greg Chappell in the mid-2000s.
While Gambhir told the media ahead of the fifth Test that the reports should not be trusted, he has now seemingly told the BCCI shareholders that it was Sarfaraz Khan who spilt all the tea to the media.

None of this could be confirmed 100%. But the social media has all but believed that Gautam Gambhir blames Sarfaraz Khan for leaking the news. However, people aren’t too happy with all this, claiming that the young batter is being used as a scapegoat for somebody else on the team.
Some other people, like in most situations, are making memes about this whole ordeal, of how Gambhir seemingly admonished Sarfaraz behind the scenes and how the Indian media has been covering this situation.
With an end to the Test season for the Indian Cricket Team and the hopes of making it to the World Test Championship final, Gautam Gambhir and the entire team will now shift their focus to the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 in February, the team for which is yet to be announced.
