Mirabai Chanu won the gold medal in the women’s 48kg weightlifting event. She is a well-known name in Indian sports. Sharmila Dhankar also won a gold medal in the women’s shot put F57 event in para athletics. Several athletes have won silver medals. Rishikanta Singh secured silver in the men’s 60kg weightlifting. Muthupandi Raja won silver in the men’s 65kg weightlifting. Gyaneshwari Yadav got silver in the women’s 53kg weightlifting. Valluri Ajaya Babu won silver in the men’s 79kg weightlifting. Sarvesh Kushare earned a silver medal in the men’s high jump athletics event.
The Indian athletics squad has 32 members in Scotland. It is led by Neeraj Chopra, the star javelin thrower. He won the gold medal at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.
