England Humiliate Pakistan And Win By An Inning: England defeated Pakistan in the first Test match of three between the two teams by an inning and 47 runs. This is not only one of the most memorable Test matches of recent times, but also a new low for Pakistan cricket for the way they lost this match.
This match saw several records be broken, most of them being done by the England Cricket Team. The match was being played on an extremely flat track at the Multan Cricket Stadium. The home team won the toss and decided to bat first.

On a pitch like this, it was expected that even an out-of-form Pakistan team would do well. And although the likes of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan filed, the team scored 556 runs on the back of centuries by Abdullah Shafique, Salman Ali Agha, and captain Shan Masood.
The Three Lions, known to play attacking cricket in all-whites, then took the Men in Green’s bowling attack to town. While captain Ollie Pope was dismissed for a duck, Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett played fine innings of 78 and 84, respectively. But the stars of the show were Joe Root and Harry Brook.
Root had been in excellent form coming into this match, as he had recently scored two centuries in a match at Lord’s against Sri Lanka. He played one of the best innings of the year, scoring 262 runs, which is his second-best score in Test cricket and his sixth double-ton, the most for an Englishman. During this inning, when he reached the personal score of 71, the 33-year-old also surpassed Alastair Cook to become the highest run scorer for England in Test cricket.
But Brook one-upped his legendary teammate, not only scoring a double-ton but doing one better and scoring 300 runs. This was also the second-fastest triple century in Test history after Virender Sehwag. When he was dismissed, he had scored 317 runs in 322 deliveries, and the England Cricket Team was already past the 750-run mark.
Some late-inning flourishes by Jamie Smith and Chris Woakes took England to 823/7, at which point they declared their inning. This is the fourth-highest team score in the over 100-year-long history of Test cricket.
What followed was one of the most humiliating moments in Pakistan cricket. And this current Pakistan Cricket Team knows humiliation. In 2024, they were kicked out of the T20 World Cup following a defeat to the USA. Then, they were whitewashed by Bangladesh in a two-Test series at home last month, losing not only a Test but a Test series to the Bangla Tigers for the first time.
But with the track at Multan being flat and the match already on Day Four, not many expected that this match would find a result. But before the end of Day Four, Pakistan had lost six wickets for 82 runs, all but giving up the match. Centurions Shafique and Masood scored 0 and 11 in this inning, respectively.
On Day Five, lower-middle order batters Salman Ali Agha and Aamir Jamal put up a fight and scored half-centuries, but the match was already lost. So when the team was all out at 220, they did lose the game by an inning and 47 runs, one of the worst losses in Test cricket in memory.
The second of three Pakistan Vs England Tests will be played from October 15-19 at the Multan Cricket Stadium as well.
