Donald Trump Picks His Football GOAT: United States President Donald Trump asked who his football GOAT is. And the answer was surprising as he snubbed the MLS star Lionel Messi and Portuguese great Cristiano Ronaldo.

Trump picked the late Brazilain legend Trump’s comments came after Chelsea’s FIFA Club World Cup 2025 win against PSG in the final. As the United States is the host of the tournament, Trump was seated at the stadium near FIFA President Infantino.

Trump, attending the match alongside FIFA president Gianni Infantino and former First Lady Melania Trump, shared the view during a broadcast interview with DAZN. Reflecting on Pelé’s stint with the New York Cosmos in the 1970s, Trump recalled attending matches during the Brazilian’s time in the now-defunct NASL.

“Many years ago, when I was young, they brought a player called Pelé to play… and he was fantastic,” Trump said. “So probably I’ll go old-fashioned… and say Pelé was so great.”

Trump’s remarks followed Chelsea’s emphatic 3-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup final, a match highlighted by Cole Palmer’s standout display. While the modern game continues to be dominated by stars like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, Trump looked to the past, drawing on personal memories from Pelé’s days in the United States.
