Sri Lankan pacer Dishan Madhushanka has replaced Brydon Carse in the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad for the remainder of IPL 2026 after the latter was ruled out due to injury.
30-year-old Carse is a tall and lanky English fast bowler who has a clean and quick action. He has played 14 Tests, 30 ODIs, and 14 T20Is for the Three Lions and has over a hundred international wickets.
This season was Carse’s first year in the IPL. Bought in the auction by SRH for his base price of Rs. 1 crore before IPL 2025, the Englishman was seen as a backup overseas bowler behind the likes of captain Pat Cummins and Eshan Malinga. He missed the last season due to a toe injury.
However, with Cummins missing a fair few matches in IPL 2026, Brydon would’ve been pushed up the pecking order if not for his injury.
Before the first game of the season against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Brydon Cars sustained a hand injury. At the time, SRH head coach Daniel Vettori revealed that he had injured his bowling hand while batting.
“He got hit on the hand in the nets when he was batting, on his bowling hand. It was cleared of any break, but there was quite a lot of swelling, and he tried to push for the game, but it was difficult for him to hold the ball. He has been improving, so we are hoping he is available for selection for Kolkata,” Vettori said following the loss to RCB.
At the time, Carse was expected to make a recovery and return to the squad during the season. However, that is no longer the case. The Sunrisers Hyderabad have revealed that Brydon Carse has been ruled out of the entirety of IPL 2026.
Dilshan Madhushanka Replaces Brydon Carse
The English pacer will be replaced by Sri Lankan fast bowler Dilshan Madhushanka. The 25-year-old has been a solid pace option for the Lankan Lions in recent years. In the 2023 ODI World Cup, he took 21 wickets in nine games.
Following that World Cup, the Mumbai Indians bought him for Rs. 4.6 crore in IPL 2024. However, he missed that season due to a hamstring injury and went unsold in 2025. Not in IPL 2026; after going unsold in the auction once more, he has found a way into the league.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated the Rajasthan Royals in their most recent game. They will face the Chennai Super Kings in their next match in IPL 2026, on the evening of Saturday, April 18, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad.
