Deepti Sharma has become the leading wicket-taker in women’s T20 Internationals. She achieved the milestone during India’s 94-run victory over Thailand in the Women’s Asia Cup. She now has 171 wickets from 150 T20I matches.

She reached the feat in her 150th T20I for India. She became only the third Indian woman after Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana to play 150 or more T20Is. She is also only the 12th woman cricketer in history to reach that mark.

She produced a remarkable spell of 3 wickets for no runs in 1.1 overs against Thailand. This was the most economical three-wicket haul by an Indian player in Women’s T20I history. She also became the first Indian to take three or more wickets without conceding a run in the format.

Deepti described the achievement as a proud moment. She said it is a proud feeling to wear the Indian jersey and do the right things as an Indian player. She added that she does not think about who she is playing against. She focuses on how she can keep getting better and help her bowling unit.

She now leads the global list of most successful bowlers in the format. She is followed by Thailand’s Thipatcha Putthawong, Rwanda’s Henriette Ishimwe, England’s Sophie Ecclestone, and Hong Kong’s Kary Chang.

In the match, India posted 159 for 9. Shafali Verma played a brilliant knock of 64 off 36 balls. Thailand were bowled out for 65 in response. Nandni Sharma also impressed with 3 for 18. Shree Charan claimed 2 for 10. India’s spin attack dominated the contest. The victory was a dominant start to their Asia Cup campaign. India will next face Hong Kong on September 3. Deepti’s record-breaking performance set the tone for the tournament. It also sent a strong message to their rivals. She has proven once again why she is one of the best in the world.
