Carvajal says Spain Are Not Racists: Real Madrid’s Brazilian winger Vinicius Jr has faced racism in Spain many times. The star has openly spoken against it and pledged to work towards eliminating racism. Recently, when he was asked in a press conference ahead of Brazil’s match against Spain, the youngster had a breakdown talking about it.
But his Real Madrid teammate, Dani Carvajal, said that Spain isn’t a country of racists.
Carvajal says Spain Are Not Racists
Carvajal emphasized that the upcoming match between Spain and Brazil is an opportunity to address racism. He mentioned that Vinicius discusses his experiences with racism with his close circle, and they support him in the dressing room. Carvajal, who grew up in Leganes surrounded by people from different countries, highlighted the country’s high level of integration. However, he acknowledged that some fans use football matches as a platform to express their anger, sometimes resorting to hurtful comments.
“It is an ideal setting and match to face the fight against racism. Vinicius speaks about it with his intimate circle, we help him as much as we can in the dressing room. I don’t think Spain is a racist country, I think we have a very high level of integration. I come from Leganes and I have grown up with kids from all countries.
Unfortunately, there are people who go to football to vent their anger. If there is a type of comment that could hurt someone, people go down that avenue.”
Carvajal and Vinicius will face each other in an international friendly this week. Carvajal stated that he would not hold back against his teammate on the field, emphasizing that playing hard is necessary to avoid injuries. He praised Vinicius for his improvement and resilience in the face of criticism, acknowledging him as one of the team’s leaders now.
Looking ahead, Spain will play against Brazil in the friendly match. Brazil comes into the game after defeating England, while Spain secured a victory against Colombia in their previous match.
“You can injure yourself more by tackling weaker than by going in strong. Being a friendly, there are actions in which you can regulate yourself, you don’t go so far to the limit. For my part, I will not hold anything back. Vinicius surprised me for the better, and the improvement he has shown has been spectacular. He received a lot of criticism, and some players have not been able to get past that. He is now one of our leaders.”
