Brook On the Comparison With Kevin Pietersen: Harry Brook’s calm and dominant batting style and the early success in his career have elicited comparisons with the legendary Kevin Pietersen. However, the 25-year-old wants to carve out his own identity in front of the world.
Brook has had a thunderous start to his Test career. The right-handed middle-order batter has amassed 1376 runs in 14 Test matches at an average of 62 and a strike rate of 90. He’s cracked five Test centuries in only 14 Tests to go with 8 fifties.
His attacking, fearless, and bold style of play has regularly shifted the momentum or earned more ground for England.
Harry Brook On the Comparison With Kevin Pietersen
One of the rising stars of world cricket, Brook sniffed at comparisons with other former England and world great batters.
After a splendid, match-winning century against West Indies at Trent Bridge, Brook said, “I want to be my own batter. I want to be Harry Brook, not anybody else.”
He pointed every batter has their own path to the top and their own style of batting.
He added, “But nowadays you have to take different parts of other batters and put it into your game. There’s so many good players out there. An example is Rooty playing the ball so late, or AB de Villiers hitting all around the ground, or Kevin Pietersen for his power.
“I’ve done a little bit of that but not too much. Rooty has just gone eighth in the all-time Test runs list, so I’d be stupid to not be tapping into his cricket knowledge and learning a few things from him.”
I want to play every Test match I can for England: Harry Brook
Despite T20 cricket being a highly lucrative venture, Brook remains committed to give Test cricket his priority.
The England batter asserted, “I want to play every Test match I can for England. I don’t want to think too far ahead. The Ashes is a long way away and we have a lot of Test cricket before then. My main focus is to stay in the moment and not get ahead of myself. There will be conversations with [Rob Key] and the head coaches but Test cricket is probably at the top of my list at the minute.”
