Ambati Rayudu On Rinku Singh Not Going To T20 WC: Former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu has come out to criticise Rinku Singh’s omission from India’s 15-man squad announced for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
The 2024 ICC T20 World Cup will start on June 2, mere days after IPL 2024 ends. The tournament will be played in the West Indies and the United States.
The squad that was announced for the World Cup is quite well-rounded, with one glaring exception. Rinku Singh, who has been brilliant for India in T20Is in the past year, was not named in the squad, and the fans were up in arms over this.
Even most experts were baffled by the decision to not pick Rinku for the squad, as he is one of the very few Indian players who has shown himself to be a world-class finisher in T20s in the last few years.
After a breakout IPL season in 2022, Rinku became an elite finisher in 2023 when he scored 474 runs in 14 matches for KKR with a near 60 average and a near 10 strike rate.
He has been even better for India in T20Is. He has scored 356 runs in 11 innings with an average of 89 and a strike rate of 176.23.

One man who singled out Rinku Singh’s non-inclusion into the squad as a mistake by selectors was Ambati Rayudu, who took to X to voice his displeasure. In the tweet, he questioned whether there was anyone who could finish matches better in the squad before suggesting that some players were selected due to their popularity.
“Rinku Singh’s omission clearly indicates stats rule over cricketing sense.. who in this selected Indian has been walking out in the 16th and 17th over in a t20 game in the last 2 years and playing fluently with a high strike rate and can win a game except Ravindra Jadeja.. he is a big miss.. quality should come before quantity and most importantly cricketing ability should come before likability on Instagram,” wrote Rayudu.
Rinku has fallen ill of the scintillating form of KKR’s top order, which means that he has not been getting much time with the bat on the field. This season, he has only amassed 123 runs in nine matches with an average of 20.5.
India will play their first match in the 2024 T20 World Cup on June 5 against Ireland. They will then face arch-rivals Pakistan on June 9. Their third league match would be against co-hosts the US on June 12, before finishing off the group stage against Canada on June 15.
