Aakash Chopra Lauds MI Squad In IPL 2025: Former Indian cricketer turned commentator Aakash Chopra believes that the Mumbai Indians have the best squad out of any team in IPL 2025, suggesting that they might have the best batting and bowling lineups in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League.
The five-time IPL champions have not had the best time in the league in the past few years. Since lifting the title in 2025. In the four seasons since, they have only made it to the playoffs once, in 2023. However, it was in the 2024 season that their results and morale fell off a cliff. As Hardik Pandya was brought in as the new captain to replace Rohit Sharma, the team split in two. But more importantly, the entire MI fanbase was against their captain and jeered Pandya at any chance they got.
This resulted in not only Hardik but also most big stars like Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav falling out of form. All this entailed a 10th-place finish in the 2024 season, as Mumbai was clearly the worst team in the league that season.
Now, ahead of the 2025 auction, the Mumbai Indians replaced their Indian core and built a fresh team around them. This team does look like one of the best-assembled sides post-auction, with a brilliant mix of veteran and young match-winners.
Aakash Chopra Lauds MI Squad In IPL 2025
Aakash Chopra recently discussed MI and their squad in a video on his YouTube channel. In the video, he claimed that the Indians have assembled one of the best teams in the league with great batting and bowling attacks. He had this to say about MI’s batting:
“Their strength is that it’s difficult to assemble a better 11 or 12 than this. They have all the best players. You can start with Rohit Sharma, then Ryan Rickelton and Will Jacks. It’s great if you wish to play both, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and Hardik Pandya. After that, Naman Dhir will still be left. The depth is incredible.”
The former Indian Cricket Team batter then went on to praise and acknowledge the awesome bowling attack the Mumbai Indians possess.
“If we check their bowling, Deepak Chahar, Trent Boult, and Jasprit Bumrah. Can you find a better trio for the Wankhede pitch where the ball moves a little and wickets fall in the powerplay? You have got the best possible options available. In spin, they have Mitchell Santner and Mujeeb Ur Rahman. So the first 12 are outstanding,” Chopra said.
Mumbai Indians not only have one of the best playing XIs in IPL 2025 but also have solid squad depth. A big part of their fine-looking squad is the massive amount of experience present on this side. In his video, Aakash Chopra had this to say about Mumbai’s experience-heavy squad.

“The second thing this team has kept in mind is that they have brought in a lot of experience. From Ryan Rickelton or Will Jacks to Mitchell Santner or Trent Boult, every player is filled with experience. Their entire squad has been built with the thought process of assembling experienced and successful T20 superstars of the world.”
Finally, he went on to note how the team and the fanbase have finally accepted Hardik Pandya as their captain, saying,
“The acceptance was less last year. It was Hardik Pandya’s first year as captain, and it is the team that has Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah, who have been Indian captains in different formats. Hardik Pandya was made the captain of such a team, and suddenly, the crowd went against him. This season will be different because everyone has accepted it.”
The Mumbai Indians will commence their IPL 2025 campaign with a blockbuster match against arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings on Sunday, March 23, in the evening in Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.
