The BCCI has finalized the date for this year’s IPL auction, set to be held in Goa in December, and also 15 November has been slotted as the deadline date for all the franchises to announce their retention and releases.
This IPL auction 2027 will be the last mini-auction of the ongoing three-year cycle, and the next year’s auction will be a mega auction.
Earlier this year, the Rajat Patidar-captained Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) became only the second team in IPL history to win two consecutive IPL titles.
Virat Kohli, who endured 17 IPL seasons without a trophy and countless heartbreaks, now has two IPL trophies in his cabinet. Kohli was the Man of the Match in the IPL 2026 final for his 75* (42) in the run-chase of 156 against the Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad.
In the IPL 2027, RCB will aim to become the first team to make a hat-trick of title-winning campaigns in the IPL. Earlier, CSK (2010 and 2011) and MI (2019 and 2020) won back-to-back IPL titles.
Where and when is the IPL auction?
The IPL auction date for the 2027 season is December 15 in Goa. It will be a one-day event. But the broadcaster may ask the BCCI for a change of date as the auction could directly clash with the India vs Sri Lanka ODI match in Bengaluru.
When is the retention deadline date for the IPL auction?
November 15 has been set as the deadline for all 10 franchises to reveal the list of their retained and released players.
After the retention deadline date, the BCCI and IPL committee will send the franchises the list of the registered cricketers to shortlist from before the final list is declared in the days leading up to the auction.
The IPL trade window opened after the conclusion of the tournament on May 31. It will remain open until a week before the auction day. The trade window will open soon after the auction and remain open until a month before the start of the season next year.
The trade window has seen a couple of major changes. Following the end of the season earlier, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Delhi Capitals (DC), both teams that had an underwhelming IPL tournament this year, made a trade of Rishabh Pant, the LSG skipper, and senior India and DC spinner Kuldeep Yadav.
The most expensive player in IPL history, Pant, whom LSG roped in for INR 27 crore two years ago, agreed to a paycut of INR 12 crore upon moving from LSG to DC, where his contact for the next season will be of INR 15 crore.
Delhi Capitals also traded in left-arm T20 specialist pacer T Natarajan from Sunriders Hyderabad (SRH) in exchange for the uncapped legspinner Zeeshan Ansari.
When is the IPL 2027 season?
The BCCI has not officially announced the date for the beginning of the IPL 2027 season. But in 2024, the board revealed a provisional date while announcing the dates for three seasons. The IPL 2027 has a provisional start date of March 14, with the final to be played on May 30.
