…Responds to Gunther’s WWE Momentum Concerns and Announces New Tournament
John Cena has shared his thoughts on Gunther. Cena retired from in-ring action in December 2026. But he is still involved in wrestling. Gunther beat Cena in Cena’s final match. That match took place at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Gunther won by submission.
Some fans think WWE is now wasting Gunther. They feel he lost momentum after Cena retired. Cena spoke about this on Busted Open Radio. He said the fans might be right. But he also said he is not part of WWE’s creative meetings. He does not know what the company has planned. He said maybe WWE is just cooling Gunther off. Or maybe they are keeping him off TV for a while. Cena said he cannot question those decisions.
Cena also talked about his own role. He said his job was to help Gunther in their match. He wanted Gunther to look as strong as possible. He said once the match was over, what WWE does next is not his call. He said he will not argue with WWE’s plans for Gunther. He just did his part.
