Elena Rybakina Defeats Aryna Sabalenka to Win US Open and Complete Hard-Court Grand Slam Double

Elena Rybakina won the U.S. Open on Saturday. She beat Aryna Sabalenka in the final. The score was 6-4, 5-7, 6-2. It was her first title in New York and also her third Grand Slam championship.

Rybakina had already become world No. 1 earlier in the tournament. She secured the ranking with a quarterfinal win over Zheng Qinwen. That ended Sabalenka’s 99-week stay at the top. Rybakina is the 30th woman to reach No. 1. The final was a tough match. Sabalenka was trying to win her third U.S. Open in a row. She had a 20-match winning streak at Flushing Meadows. Rybakina stopped both. She pulled away in the third set to win.

After the match, Rybakina had kind words for Sabalenka. She said, “You are a great champion.” She said it is very difficult to play against her. She said Sabalenka pushed her to her limits. She said she was diving on the court and trying to get every ball. She also congratulated Sabalenka and her team.

Rybakina was surprised by her own win. She came into the tournament with an injury. She had never gone past the fourth round in New York before. She said, “I didn’t expect anything like this.” She said everything came together for her. She thanked her team, her family, and the crowd.

She also said she is falling in love with New York more and more. After ten years of trying, she finally had success there.

Rybakina now has three major titles. She won Wimbledon in 2022. She won the Australian Open in 2026. And now she has won the U.S. Open in 2026. She is one of the few women this century to win both hard-court majors in the same season.

Aryna Sabalenka Opens Up on US Open Final Loss and Losing World No. 1 Ranking to Elena Rybakina

Aryna Sabalenka lost the U.S. Open final to Elena Rybakina. The score was 6-4, 5-7, 6-2. She also lost her world No. 1 ranking. Rybakina had already secured the top ranking before the final. Sabalenka’s 99-week run at No. 1 will end on Monday.

Sabalenka said the crowd support at Arthur Ashe Stadium felt amazing. She said at one point she felt like an American. She wished she could have won so she could feel that support even more. The crowd stayed behind her during the match. They cheered as she fought back to win the second set. They kept supporting her even when Rybakina took control in the third set.

Sabalenka said she should be happy with her level of play. She said there are many things to take from the tournament. She had beaten Jessica Pegula in the semi-finals. This is the first time since 2022 that she will finish a season without a Grand Slam title. She lost to Rybakina in the Australian Open final. She reached the quarter-finals of the French Open. She exited Wimbledon in the fourth round. Her most recent titles came with the Indian Wells-Miami double in March.

Sabalenka said she only comes back stronger from experiences like this. She said the lessons from this season have already made her stronger. She said they will motivate her to do better next year. She also said losing the No. 1 ranking will not change how opponents play her. She said there is always a target on her back no matter her ranking. She will keep working hard and improving. She hopes to win more tournaments.
