Virat Kohli played his first international cricket match in India in nine months when he took to the field against the West Indies in the 1st ODI of a three-match series. The veteran batter did not disappoint, scoring an unbeaten 139 and guiding his team to a smashing victory.
The match was played at Greenfield Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. The Men in Blue won the toss and decided to bowl first. The Windies put up a decent batting effort, scoring 295 runs at the loss of seven wickets in 50 overs.
In response, the Indian opening pair of Rohit Sharma and captain Shubman Gill put up an opening stand of 74 runs. After Rohit was dismissed, Virat walked in to bat at number three and did not leave the field till his team won the match.

The record was previously held by the great Sachin Tendulkar (who will make further appearances on this list). Sachin, in 160 innings in 164 matches played in India, scored 6976 runs at an average of 48.11.
Kohli became the first player to score 7000+ in ODIs in a single country. His 7006 runs have come in 128 innings in 131 matches at an average of 63.69.

Now, this might be a joint record, which means that another player has scored 10 100s against a single opponent in ODIs. Well, that other player is Virat Kohli as well, who has also scored 10 tons against Sri Lanka in ODIs. Kohli essentially holds the record twice.

Virat Kohli’s recent 100 against the West Indies was his 42nd century in international cricket in India. This is the joint-most by any player in one country.
The record before yesterday, unsurprisingly, was held by Sachin Tendulkar, who scored 42 of his 100 international tons in India. Virat Kohli has not equalled that milestone.
Sachin played 313 innings in 258 matches across all formats in India. In those games, he scored 14192 runs and 42 100s at an average of 50.32. Meanwhile, Kohli has played 260 innings in 232 matches across all formats in India, scoring 12919 runs and 42 centuries at an average of 58.99.
With two Indians on top of this list, the top five are rounded off by Ricky Ponting of Australia, Joe Root of England, and David Warner of Australia, who scored 37, 34, and 31 international tons in their countries, respectively.
The obvious stat not mentioned in this piece is about the most 100s in international cricket. Virat Kohli has the second most of all time, with 86, 15 more than Rocky Ponting at third with 71. However, it is unlikely that Kohli will ever break Sachin Tendulkar’s insane record of 100 hundreds in international cricket.
