As the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) await the identity of the second finalist of IPL 2026, the Gujarat Titans (GT) and the Rajasthan Royals (RR) gear up for the knockout bout in Qualifier 2.
The GT vs RR Qualifier 2 is slated for Friday evening in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh, where on Wednesday, RR pounced on the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Jofra Archer starring in the 47-run victory.
Shubman Gill’s team, on the other hand, endured a huge loss by 92 runs against RCB in Qualifier 1 in Dharamsala.
Let us see the three batsmen vs bowler player battles that are likely to have a huge impact on Qualifier 2.
GT vs RR: 3 Batsman vs Bowler Player Battles That Could Define Qualifier 2
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi vs Kagiso Rabada
How iconic the Sooryavanshi vs Rabada battle could prove tonight: the best and most dangerous batsman of IPL 2026 against the joint-leading wicket-taker who has the most wickets in the powerplay this season so far.
Sooryavanshi has rarely given himself time against any bowler, tonking even the likes of Bumrah, Cummins, Hazlewood, and Starc.
Against Rabada, Sooryavanshi faced 14 balls in their two clashes in the league stage and scored 25 runs, cracking two fours and two sixes without getting out.
If Rabada could get the 15-year-old in his first couple of overs, it could very well put GT on the winning course.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi vs Rashid Khan
If Sooryavanshi gets past the new ball threat from Rabada and Siraj, expect Rashid Khan to be introduced in the 5th or the 6th over of the powerplay.
After a disappointing IPL 2025, Rashid has got back his fizz, zip, and potency: Rashid is the only spinner in the top 10 wicket-takers in IPL 2026 at the moment, with 19 wickets, and managed an impressive economy of 8.77.
Rashid perhaps stands as an even tougher challenge for Sooryavanshi than Rabada. During their clash in Ahmedabad earlier in the season, Rashid dismissed Sooryavanshi on the first ball he sent down to the RR opener, who was caught at deep mid-wicket.
Shubman Gill vs Jofra Archer
From GT’s point of view, Jofra Archer is going to be the biggest threat to their batsmen. With 24 scalps, Archer is the third-highest wicket-taker of the season hitherto.
With Sai Sudharsan generally playing the anchor role, it will be up to Shubman Gill to take down Archer and put the pressure back on RR. However, the RR seamer has had an upper hand over the GT skipper.
In T20 cricket, Archer has dismissed Gill three times, and Gill has scored 36 runs off 30 balls against Archer, managing an average of 12 and a strike rate of 120.
