ICC Finals New Zealand Have Lost: While the Indian cricket team and their billion-plus fans celebrated their third consecutive ICC trophy victory, at the same moment, the New Zealand cricket team and their five million fans endured yet another heartbreak of losing an ICC final.

New Zealand have always been a team that punches above its weight; the whole has always been greater than the sum of its parts.

Ahead of the IND vs NZ final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, South African legend Dale Steyn ranted on the “chokers” tag that is often associated with the South African teams, both men and women.

Steyn pointed out that New Zealand too have come second in several ICC finals, adding that he would hand over the chokers tag to New Zealand if they lost the final to India, which they did.

The Kiwis have been to more than half-a-dozen ICC tournament finals and another spate of quarterfinals and semifinals. They have had glory, but the general sentiment regarding the New Zealand teams over the past decade has been that they have almost always fallen short in the summit clashes.

Let us check out New Zealand’s history in ICC tournament finals.
