India Playing 11:- On Saturday, February 7, Team India will kick off their journey at the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 with the aim of becoming the first team to win consecutive men’s T20 World Cup titles and also the first to clinch this trophy in a home tournament.
India are such overwhelming favorites that anything other than a podium finish will be criticized and scrutinized. Their campaign will get underway at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai against the USA.
India are dealing with injuries to a couple of players. Washington Sundar is recovering from a side strain that kept him out of the T20Is against New Zealand, and Harshit Rana has sustained a fresh injury that will see him miss the fixture against the USA and possibly even the entire tournament.
Despite the potential absence of these two players from the IND vs USA match, India have a beast of a lineup to take on any team in this competition.
Ishan Kishan has certainly pipped Sanju Samson for Abhishek’s opening partner-cum-wicketkeeper role following his thunderous knocks against New Zealand in the T20I series and in the warm-up against the Proteas. Samson failed to step up against the Kiwis and didn’t get to bat against South Africa in the warm-up game, a clear indication of India’s decision.
The good news is that Tilak Varma is fit and firing, having proved his form and fitness in the warm-up match against South Africa.
Most of India’s playing XI members pick themselves in the side: Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, and Varun Chakravarthy.
The remaining two positions are likely to be filled by Rinku Singh, who played a couple of fantastic finishing knocks against New Zealand, and Arshdeep Singh, who bagged a five-wicket haul against the Kiwis in Vizag.
Given the match is at the Wankhede Stadium, where pacers get more purchase than spinners, Kuldeep Yadav is unlikely to get the nod ahead of Arshdeep.
