WWE SmackDown Highlights: WWE SmackDown on January 9 was taped at Uber Arena in Berlin, Germany. The episode marked the start of WWE’s European tour and featured a card presented as a major event rather than a regular weekly show.
The main focus was Cody Rhodes defending the Undisputed WWE Championship against Drew McIntyre in a Three Stages of Hell match, which was only the sixth time this match type had been used in WWE history.
WWE SmackDown Highlights
Randy Orton Welcomes Berlin
Randy Orton welcomed Berlin and said it felt good to be back. Trick Williams interrupted him, saying a new star had arrived and declared 2026 as the year of Trick Williams. He compared himself to Orton and said he came to take the spotlight. Orton responded by listing his 14 world titles and warned Trick about interrupting him. Trick said he respected Randy but wanted to put him on notice.
Tension escalated when Trick slapped the microphone from Orton’s hand. Orton attacked Trick with punches and a hanging DDT. The Miz then ran in and attacked Orton, but Orton countered and hit The Miz with an RKO.
Rey Fenix vs Trick Williams
Rey Fenix and Trick Williams started with lockups, with Trick using his size to shove Rey away and pose. Trick took control by throwing Rey into the ring post and steel steps and landing chops and kicks. Rey fought back with a super rana and several near falls that kept the match even. Near the end, Rey nearly won with a victory roll, but Trick reversed it, grabbed the tights, and secured the pinfall.
The winner of the match was Trick Williams.
Giulia vs Alexa Bliss
Giulia and Alexa Bliss started with a heated exchange, shoving each other before Giulia took control. When Alexa set up for Sister Abigail, interference from Kiana James and Lash Legend stopped her momentum. Giulia then capitalized by hitting the Northern Lights Bomb to secure the pin. Giulia won the match and retained the WWE Women’s United States Championship.
Wyatt Sicks vs The MFTs
The match began with Loa and Dexter Lumis trading headlocks and shoulder tackles. The MFTs turned the match around by isolating Gacy, using heavy strikes from Tama, Talla, and Solo Sikoa. In the closing moments, Tama Tonga capitalized and delivered Cutthroat to score the pin. Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, and Talla Tonga won the match. Afterward, the MFTs took control of the lantern.
Alba Fyre vs Jordynne Grace
Jordynne Grace controlled the early part of the match with multiple clotheslines and a tilt-a-whirl dominator. Alba fought back with a back heel kick and a tornado DDT for a near fall, then added kicks and corner attacks. Grace stopped a suplex attempt, countered again, and hit a spinebuster followed by a package powerbomb. Chelsea Green distracted Grace from the apron, but Grace recovered and sent Alba into Green. Grace then hit a torture rack powerbomb and pinned Alba Fyre to win the match.
Carmelo Hayes vs Nakamura
Carmelo Hayes and Nakamura began with technical exchanges, trading holds and quick escapes. The closing stretch saw both men trade big strikes and near falls. Nakamura attempted the Kinshasa, but Hayes stopped it and hit Nothing But Net from the top rope to retain the United States Championship. After the match, Hayes offered his hand, and Nakamura accepted in a show of respect.
Three Stages of Hell Match for Undisputed WWE Championship: Cody Rhodes vs Drew McIntyre
The match was contested under Three Stages of Hell rules for the Undisputed WWE Championship between Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre.
In the first stage, a regular match, Cody dominated early with dives, cutters, German suplexes, and heavy offense. Drew survived by using a distraction, landed a low blow, and finished Cody with a Claymore to win the first fall.
The second stage was Falls Count Anywhere. Drew powerbombed Cody through a table and controlled much of the brawl around the arena and backstage. Cody fought back in the crowd and finally won the second fall by hitting Cross Rhodes through the announce table and pinning Drew.
The third stage was a steel cage match. Drew survived multiple Cross Rhodes, and Cody kicked out of a Claymore. As Drew tried to escape, Jacob Fatu interfered by attacking the referee. Drew then crawled out of the cage to the floor to win.
Drew McIntyre won the match and became the new Undisputed WWE Champion. Cody attacked Jacob Fatu after the match as the show ended.
