One of the most bizarre images being spread around social media in the cricketing world is a picture of Australian Women’s cricket team star Ellyse Perry proposing to Pakistani cricketer Babar Azam. So, the question is, is the image making the rounds real?
The viral picture shows Perry, in her Sydney Sixers kit from the WBBL, bending down on a knee and presenting an engagement ring to Babar Azam, who is also in a Sixers kit, the team he plays for in the BBL.
Did Ellyse Perry Propose To Babar Azam?
Now, while the image looks incredibly photoreal, to the point that it might convince someone that it is real. It is very clearly an AI-generated image.
Apart from the image, which looks quite real, there are factors surrounding the two players that might convince someone that it is genuine. Perry, who is a multiple-time World Cup winner, is not currently married or engaged. She did get hitched to Australian rugby player Matt To’omua in 2013. But the two ended their marriage in 2020.
On the other hand, Babar Azam, despite being one of the most popular Pakistanis in the world, is also not married. The personal life of the 31-year-old is not well known either.
However, there are a few telltale signs of this picture being AI-generated for those looking closely enough. Firstly, if two of the biggest cricketing stars had been in a relationship, the news would have spread like wildfire, and a proposal would not have come out of nowhere.
Secondly, the image itself shows signs of being AI, like the names of the sponsors on their jerseys being jumbled or how Babar’s face in the image is incredibly smooth.
It has been confirmed that this image is, indeed, AI-generated, and cricket fans all over the world will have to settle for just watching the game without any drama for now.
Speaking of the Sydney Sixers, they finished second in the WBBL last year but failed to make it to the final. Meanwhile, in the BBL, the Sixers are currently fourth on the points table.
