Cameron Green has become the most expensive overseas IPL player in history as the Kolkata Knight Riders bought the tall Australian all-rounder for an eye-watering price of Rs. 25.20 crore in IPL 2026 auction.
Green Becomes Most Expensive Overseas IPL Player
Green, predicted to be one of the biggest buys in this auction, was part of the first set of players to be presented to the teams. The day started slowly, as only one out of the first five players, that being David Miller, was sold, and that too for his base price of Rs. 2 crore.
However, the winds changed in the auction room when Green’s name came up. Immediately, the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Rajasthan Royals went into a bidding war. While the base price was Rs. 2 crore, the price quickly raced past the 10 crore mark.
The Royals went as high as Rs. 13 crore, despite coming into the auction with 16 crore and change. But KKR took the price out of Rajasthan’s range.
This was not the end of the bidding war for Cameron Green, as the Chennai Super Kings jumped in at this point. KKR and CSK are the two teams with the highest budgets in this auction, Rs 64.30 and 43.40 crore, respectively. So it was to no one’s surprise that the price would eventually go past the 20 crore mark.
At this point, the bids started to slow down, but Chennai and Kolkata were still adamant about getting the Aussie pace all-rounder. The price went past the Rs. 25 crore mark. At this point, one would assume that he was on track to become the most expensive player in IPL history. The record is currently held by Pant, who was bought by the Lucknow Super Giants for Rs. 27 crore last year.
Although CSK was not going to go past 25. This means that the Knight Riders’ bid of Rs. 25.20 crore was the final one. This not only made the 26-year-old the highest-paid player in the IPL 2026 auction so far, but he was also only one of two players to be sold from set one of players.
He also broke the record of being the most expensive overseas player in IPL history, breaking Mitchell Starc’s record of Rs 24.75 from 2024
But this price was not enough to break another record, that being the most expensive IPL player ever, set by LSG for Pant in the IPL 2025 auction. Cameron Green is not the third-most expensive player in league history, behind Pant and Shreyas Iyer, both of whom were bought last season.
