India And Shubman Gill Dominate Day 2 Vs ENG: Indian Cricket Team captain Shubman Gill dominated with the bat on a day that belonged to the Men in Blue with the bat and the ball in the ongoing Test against England.
Today was Day Two of the 2nd England vs India Test of the five-game Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, which is currently underway at Edgbaston in Birmingham. The home side won the toss on Day One and decided to bowl first on this even batting track.
On the first day, India lost a wicket early when KL Rahul got out. Karun Nair didn’t make a lot of runs too (31). Yahsasvi Jaiswal got out for 87. Previous match’s hero Rishabh Pant departed for just 25 runs too. And when Nitish Kumar Reddy was out for one, and the team score was 211/5, collapse loomed.

But Indian captain Shubman Gill, who scored a century, teamed with veteran-allrounder Ravinfra Jadeja to mount a rescue as the two took the team past the 300-run mark without losing any more wickets at the end of Day One.
Day Two started with India’s score being 310/5. The first session entirely belonged to Gill’s men. The skipper played some exquisite shots and never looked like he could get out. Meanwhile, Jadeja provided excellent support, making a half-century of his own and playing some attacking shots.
In this first session, Shubman reached his 150. But right before lunch break, Jadeja got out after getting surprised by a bouncer from Josh Tongue. The ball flew up in the air and was caught by the keeper. Jaddu was out for 89. THe session ended with India’s score at 419/6.
Session 2 was entirely dominated by India as well. Having already made a few good partnerships in this inning, Gill had another one of those, this time with Washington Sundar. While the all-rounder played a supporting role with the bat, the captain went on the offensive, playing some exquisite shots with a dash of attacking might.

Gill quickly raced to the 200-run mark, becoming the third Indian to do so on English soil. But the smashing of records had just started.
This session saw Shubman scoring a boatload of runs, couples with some solid batting from Washington Sundar. Right before the end of the session, Sundar gout out once the pitch started breaking a bit. It was Joe Root who took his wicket. The ball went through the batter’s defences and hit the stumps. ‘Washy’ got out for 42, just shy of his half-century.
However, by this time, Shubman GIll had done what no other Indian had done, well, he did a lot of those things. First, he surpassed Virat Kohli’s record of the highest Test total by an Indian captain in Tests of 255, which he made against South Africa in Pune in 2019. This was also the highest score by an Indian in Tests in England, breaking Sunil Gavaskar’s record of 224. Lastly, it was the highest score by an Indian in Tests outside Asia.
At the end of the session, the Indian Cricket Team’s score was 564/7, with Gill playing at 265 and Akash Deep at zero. However, soon into the third session, Shubman Gill got out off a lose shot to Tongue. His monumental inning ending at 269. The Indian inning ended soon after for 587.
England had plenty of time to score some runs before the end of day’s play, while India had the opportunity to pick some wickets. And it was the visitors who struck first. BEn Duckett, who scored a century in the first Test, got out for a duck when he edged a ball by Akash Deep and was caught in the slips, 13/1.
Ollie Pope, who too scored a ton in the last game, got out on the very next ball for zero, edging the ball into the slips again, 13/2. Now in trouble, ENgland soon lost another wicket, as Zack Crawley, who was looking to drive balls in conditions not suited for that shot, edged a Mohammed Siraj ball and was caught in the slips, 25/3.
England was now in massive trouble with Harry Brook and Joe Root on strike, two of their best batter. And the two stabilized the inning till the end of the day, not losing any more wicket.
Day Two of the 2nd England vs India Test match ended with England at 77/3. Root is not out at 18, while Brook has made 30 runs.Day three will all but decide the trajectory of this match, and the final result.
