England vs India Head-to-Head Test Record:- The Indian Cricket Team will travel to England in June for a highly anticipated five-match Test series. With these being two of the biggest teams in international cricket, we will look at the head-to-head record of India vs England in Test cricket.
India started their cricket as a nation over a decade before its independence. A team from British India took on England in their first-ever Test match on June 25-28, 1932, at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. This match saw the English, who had a lot of experience playing international cricket against the likes of Australia and South Africa, win this match.
In fact, every Test match India played before independence in 1947 was against England. Out of the 10 matches played between the two teams from 1932 to 1947, six were won by England, while four were drawn.

The Indian Cricket Team won their first series against the English as an independent nation in 1951. The historic five-match series saw not only India win their first Test against their former colonisers but also draw the series 1-1. The team led by Vijay Hazare won the fifth Test of the series in Chennai to draw the series.
The first time India beat the England Cricket Team at their home was in the historic 1971 Test series. The three-match series saw the first two matches at Lord’s and Manchester draw. Then came the third game at the Oval, and Ajit Wadekar’s men won the final match of the series by four wickets. This also means it was India’s first series win on English soil.
By the time the 80s rolled around, both teams stood on equal footing. India had become a strong power in world cricket after winning the World Cup in England in 1983. Now both teams usually won the series against each other at home while suffering defeats away. In 1986, India even won a three-match Test series in England 2-0.
In 2002, the two nations had a memorable series in England, which ended in a 1-1 draw. And the next time India won a series in England was in 2007. Now called the Pataudi Trophy, the England vs India Test series this year saw the first match end in a draw, and the second match was won by the Indian team led by Rahul Dravid. This match was the series decider, which ended in a 1-0 victory for India.
