3 Reasons LSG Lost To SRH IPL 2025: The Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated the Lucknow Super Giants by six wickets with 10 balls to spare while chasing 206 runs in Match 61 of the Indian Premier League 2025. The match was played on Monday, May 19, at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
Lucknow Super Giants, after tonight’s loss, are out of the race for the playoffs in IPL 2025. They had a decent first half to the season, kicking their campaign off with a loss to DC, a win over SRH, and a defeat to PBKS. Then came three wins in a row against MI, KKR, and GT. A loss to CSK and a win over RR followed. However, LSG have not lost their last four games in a row against DC, MI, PBKS, and now SRH. With five wins, seven losses, 10 points, and a slightly negative net run rate, the Super Giants are seventh on the points table.
As for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, they were already out of the race for the playoffs. They have only won four matches this season so far, defeating RR, PBKS, CSK, and now LSG. They have also lost seven matches in IPL 2025, suffering defeats against LSG, DC, KKR, GT, MI, MI again, and GT. SRH’s second game against DC this season was abandoned due to rain. With four wins, seven losses, one washout, nine points, and the worst net run rate in the league, the Sunrisers are eighth on the points table.

3) A Horrid Day With The Ball
The Lucknow Super Giants looked to have a fantastic bowling attack before the start of IPL 2025. But injuries to multiple crucial names put an end to that. Despite that, LSG have had a few good nights with the ball this season; tonight was not one of them, with several bowlers having a bad day at work.
Something that put Lucknow’s poor bowling performance on display is that they had to use seven different bowlers. Let’s start with Ravi Bishnoi. One of India’s most promising wrist spinners bowled just one over today, conceding 26 runs in that over. Aiden Markram, who had to bowl one of the replacement overs, conceded 14 in one.
Shardul Thakur, as compared to many other bowlers from his team, did well, but that still meant that his figures after four overs were 1/39, dismissing Heinrich Klassen after the match was all but over. Akash Deep, on the other hand, conceded 33 in three overs and took no wickets.
Will O’Rourke made his LSG debut tonight and did not have the best evening in Lucknow, conceding 31 runs in just 2.2 overs at an economy of 13.29. He did take the team’s first wicket of the night, dismissing Atharva Taide in the powerplay.
The only two bowlers who had a decent time with the ball tonight were Digvesh Rathi and Avesh Khan. Avesh bowled three overs and conceded just 25 runs at an economy of 8.33, being his team’s most economical bowler on the night. Meanwhile, Rathi took two wickets in his four overs and gave away 37.

2) LSG Falters In The Death Overs
The Lucknow Super Giants got off to a brilliant start to their innings after being put to bat first tonight. The opening pair of Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram returned to form at the same time as they partnered up for 115 runs before Marsh was dismissed for 65 off 39 in the 11th over. Rishabh Pant then came and went quickly. But LSG was cruising till the 16th over, when Markram got out for 61 off 38, and the team score was 159.3.
With an attacking Nicholas Pooran in the middle and a promising Indian middle order still to come, the Super Giants would have been aiming to score about 60 runs in the last four overs. However, that did not happen.
Pooran was doing his part, as the West Indies T20 specialist stood at one end and kept scoring boundaries. But it was the other batters that did not support him. At No. 5 came Ayush Badoni, who is one of the most promising Indian middle-order domestic batters. But the captain of the Delhi Ranji team scored only three runs in five balls before getting out.
This brought Abdul Samad to strike. Samad is considered a death overs specialist, but he could not work his magic tonight, scoring just three off six. Shardul Thakur scored a four on the one ball he played, and Akash Deep hit a six at the last ball of the inning to take the score to 205/7 in 20 overs. But there was a feeling in the air that the Rishabh Pant-led team could have scored 15–20 more runs.

1) The Sharma-Klassen-Kamindu Connection
Despite slowing down in the death overs, the Lucknow Super Giants had put up a decent total on the board. It was not their bowling unit’s turn to defend that total. But from what we have discussed earlier, that did not happen. With Travis Head being unavailable, Atharva Taide made his SRH debut tonight but was dismissed in the second over after scoring 13 runs. From this point on, nothing went in LSG’s favour for the remaining 18 overs.
Abhishek Sharma went on the offensive from this point on, scoring speedy runs and doing it in style. Ishan Kishan played a sporting role, but it was the Abhishek Sharma show for the first seven overs. The 24-year-old scored 59 runs in 20 balls before getting out. At this point, the Sunrisers Hyderabad were 99/2 in 7.2 overs.
Then came in Heinrich Klaasen, who kept the run rate up. Ishan Kishan then got out for 35 off 28, and in came Kamindu Mendis. Mendis and Klaasen did not slow down and kept the run rate well over the required.
By the time Klassen had gotten out in the 18th over, the team score was 195/4. The Pat Cummins-led team won their fourth match of the season by six wickets and with 10 balls to spare. Heinrich Klassen made 47 off 28, while Kamindu Mendis scored 32 off 21.
