Digvesh Rathi And Abhishek Sharma Fight: Tempers rose between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) leg-spinner Digvesh Rathi and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) opener Abhishek Sharma as the leg-spinner gave a provoking send-off after dismissing Abhishek during the LSG vs SRH encounter on Monday evening in Lucknow.
On May 19, Rishabh Pant’s LSG were knocked out of the playoffs race following their six-wicket defeat against SRH, no less at their home ground, the Ekana Stadium.
Abhishek, who’s had an inconsistent season, played a brutal knock of 59 off only 20 balls, laced with four fours and six sixes, that laid the platform for SRH’s chase of the target of 206 runs. Heinrich Klaasen, Ishan Kishan, and Kamindu Mendis continued the momentum provided by Sharma and sealed the chase in 18.2 overs, knocking LSG out of the contention for the next round.
While Abhishek tonked other LSG bowlers, he got out to Rathi without hitting a single boundary off the leg-spinner. Rathi bowled a googly wide of Abhishek’s reach; the left-hander still went after it with hard hands and holed out at sweeper cover.
As Abhishek started to walk off, Rathi gave him a bye-bye send-off, gesturing with his hand before doing his famous ‘Notebook’ celebration. Abhishek watched Rathi intensely and seemingly got triggered by Rathi’s send-off.
Abhishek turned around, and seeing him, Rathi, too, turned around, and both walked towards each other clearly with hot heads. They got into each other and exchanged plenty of words and were even going at each other when the umpires intervened and tried to separate them.

However, after the game, both were seen chatting and laughing together.
Digvesh Rathi has copped fines and demerit points twice this season already for his “writing in the notebook” celebration. He is likely to get another fine and possibly demerit points for his send-off and celebration after dismissing Abhishek. He has, though, been the best LSG bowler this season so far, snapping 14 wickets at a good economy of 8.18.
Abhishek, despite his inconsistent season, has produced a few thrilling knocks. He’s smashed 373 runs at a strike rate of 192, notching up two fifties and one century.
SRH coach Daniel Vettori gushed in praise for the young opener: “He has been incredible, and the big challenge for any team is when he gets through the early stages of his innings and plays spin. Once again tonight, he was exceptional against the spinners, and his strike rate is out of this world. So, we know that whenever the opportunity presents itself, he normally takes it on and normally is very successful.”
