IPL 2025 Playoffs Qualification Scenario: May 18, Super Sunday’s two matches confirmed three teams in the playoffs of the IPL 2025. After Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 10 runs in Jaipur and Gujarat Titans (GT) hammered Delhi Capitals (DC) by 10 wickets in Delhi, three teams—GT, RCB, and PBKS—sealed their spot in the playoffs.
While GT, RCB, and PBKS have qualified for the playoffs, now the three teams will be fighting to confirm a top-two finish, which would give them an extra chance to fail in their quest for the final. All three of them have played 12 matches; GT have earned 18 points, and PBKS and RCB have 17 points each.
Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were the fourth franchise to be eliminated from the playoffs race after their match against RCB was washed out. Before the one-week break, Chennai Super Kings, RR, and Sunrisers Hyderabad had been eliminated from the playoffs race.
Now, as of the morning of May 19, 10 matches are left in the league stage, and three teams remain alive in the playoffs race. They are Mumbai Indians (MI), Delhi Capitals (DC), and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

Remaining matches vs DC, PBKS
If MI win both their remaining matches, they will certainly qualify for the playoffs. Also, if MI beats DC and even lose their last league match against PBKS, they will most likely qualify as then DC would be able to reach a maximum of 15 points, and though LSG can reach 16 points, their NRR is a lot poorer compared to MI’s. Simply said, a win for MI over DC will virtually take them into the playoffs.
However, if MI lose to DC, then they will have to hope for PBKS to beat DC and themselves beat PBKS. If MI suffer defeats in both their matches, they will be knocked out.

Remaining matches vs MI, PBKS
Firstly, DC need to beat MI in their next match. Otherwise, they will be knocked out. And if they also beat PBKS, they will qualify for playoffs.
If DC beat MI but lose to PBKS, they’ll have to hope that PBKS beat MI and LSG don’t win all three of their remaining matches. In this case, 15 points will still be enough for DC to enter the playoffs.

Played: 11, Points: 10, NRR: -0.469
Remaining matches: SRH, GT, RCB
LSG have a disastrous NRR. So even if they win all three of their matches by healthy margins, it would be near impossible to match Mumbai’s NRR if MI end up with 16 points.
For LSG to qualify for the playoffs, they will have to win their remaining three matches, and also hope that both MI and DC stay below 16 points. For that, DC have to beat MI and then lose to PBKS, and MI also have to lose to PBKS.
