3 Reasons KKR Lost To CSK IPL 2025: The Chennai Super Kings defeated the Kolkata Knight Riders by 38 runs after scoring 206 runs in Match 57 of the Indian Premier League 2025. The match was played on Sunday, May 04, at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
For Kolkata Knight Riders, today’s loss will be a massive blow to their playoff qualification chances. They kicked their season off with a loss to RCB and a win over RR. Their roller coaster season continued with a loss against MI, a win over SRH, a defeat to LSG, and a victory against CSK. For the next three games, CSK did not win a match as they lost to PBKS and GT, and their second game against Punjab was washed out. They then won two games; they won against DC and RR. Tonight, the team suffered a loss against CSK. With five wins, one washout, 11 points, and a positive net run rate in 12 games, the Knight Riders are sixth on the league table.

3) Slow Middle Overs For KKR
The Kolkata Knight Riders got off to a blistering start to their innings after they won the toss and decided to bat first. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Sunil Narine opened the innings, and Gurbaz was dismissed in the second over. Then, Narine and captain Ajinkya Rahane took charge and scored some quick runs.
At the end of the powerplay, KKR was at 67/1. While Narine played at 25 off 13, Rahane had scored 29 off 14. But then, the West Indian got out in the seventh over, and the inning slowed down to a snail’s pace.
In the next eight overs, only 42 runs were scored at a very slow run rate of 5.25. Rahane, who had scored 29 runs at a strike rate of over 200 at the end of the powerplay, was dismissed in the 13th over at 48 off 33, with a strike rate of 145.45. But before his wicket, Angkrish Raghuvanshi had been out for a single run.
Manish Pandey was in the squad today and scored 36 runs in 28 balls at a strike rate of 128.57, despite considerably pacing up towards the end of the inning. With six overs remaining in the Knight Riders’ inning, the score was 109/4. But then, in the final six overs of the game, 70 runs were scored, with Andre Sussell coming to the rescue with 38 off 21, which took the home side to a respectable yet below-par score of 179.

2) Dewald Brevis And Urvil Patel Counterattack
Despite stopping KKR at a chaseable score (by CSK standards this season), the Super Kings got off to a dismal start to their inning. On the second ball of the first over of the chase, in-form opener Ayush Mhatre departed for a duck. Then, in the second over, the other opener, Devon Conway, was dismissed for a duck as well.
However, in the 10 innings between these two wickets, nine of which were played by Urvil Patel on his IPL debut, the wicketkeeper/batter had scored 25 runs. By the time Patel got out in the third over for 31 off 11, despite a quick start to the inning, the Chennai-based team was also in trouble at 37/3 in three overs.
Ravichandran Ashwin, who came out to bat at No. 4, got out for eight off seven, and then, in the fifth over, Ravindra Jadeja got out for 19 off 10. At the end of the powerplay, CSK was reeling at 62.5.
Dewald Brevis and Shivam Dube then took charge of the inning. While Dube anchored the chase and played cautiously, Brevis took the responsibility of keeping up the run rate. The young South African would end up scoring 52 off 25 before getting out, even scoring 30 runs in the 11th over off Vaibhav Arora.
In the end, Shivan Dube (45 off 40) and captain MS Dhoni (17 off 18) took their team home after the chase was made easy by blistering innings of Dewald Brevis and Urvil Patel, as the away team ended up with the win in this Kolkata Knight Riders vs Chennai Super Kings match.

1) The Noor Ahmad Show
We have already discussed how KKR’s innings had slowed down to a crawl in the middle overs. But we should also talk about the architect of that slowdown, that being Afghan wrist-spinner Noor Ahmad, whose four-over spell yielded the figures of 4/31 at an economy of 7.75.
Noor bowled his first over in the eighth over of the inning. The score was 69/1 at this point, but the 20-year-old was about to change the complexion of this match and this inning. In this over, he gave only four runs and took two wickets, dismissing Sunil Narine and Angkrish Raghuvanshi.
Then came his second over in the 10th, in which he conceded just seven. His third over in the 17th was a little costly. He gave away 14 runs in this over and conceded his first boundary of the game, but did dismiss the dangerous Andre Russell. Then, in his final over, Ahmad conceded 10 runs and dismissed Rinku Singh.
The other spinners in the team, namely the veteran duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, too, helped in heaping Kolkata under the 200-run mark. Jadeja had figures of 1/34 in his four-over spell as he dismissed captain Ajinkya Rahane. Meanwhile, Ashwin did not take any wickets but gave away only 19 runs in three overs.
