Kohli said that, at one time, the expectations that people had of him took a huge toll on him
“And at one point, it did become really tough for me because there was just too much happening in my career. I was capping India for a period of seven, eight years. I was capping RCB for nine years. There were expectations of me from a batting perspective every game that I played. I did not I didn’t have the sense that the attention is off me.
If it wasn’t captaincy, it was batting. If it was batting, it was captaincy. So I was always, you know, in the space where I was like, what do I do? I was exposed to it, like, twenty-four seven.”
The constant pressure will affect you. It will eat up your mental health, and that’s what happened with Virat Kohli at one point in time. He was and has been the most talked-about cricketer in the world
“And it did get very, very tough on me, and it did get too much in the end. That’s why I stepped down, because I felt like, okay, if I’ve decided I wanna be in this place, I need to be happy. I need to have a space in my life where, you know, I can just come and play my cricket without being judged, without being looked at as, what is he gonna do this season, and, you know, what’s gonna happen now? There’s that and the other. So I did feel, I wouldn’t say tempted, but I did think about it.”
Virat and RCB are enjoying at the top of the IPL 2025 with 16 points from 11 matches. They are just a win a way from qualifying for the IPL playoffs. Next, they will meet Lucknow Super Giants on Friday at the Ekana Cricket Stadium B Ground.
