MS Dhoni Takes the Blame of RCB Loss: The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni has taken the blame for not finishing off the run chase against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Saturday night at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
RCB clinched yet another thriller against CSK at the Chinnaswamy, as they had done last season to qualify for the playoffs. This two-run victory put them on the top of the points table. Now that they have 16 points in 11 matches, RCB have almost sealed their playoffs spot.
Similar to the RCB vs CSK encounter at the Chinnaswamy last season, Yash Dayal kept his calm to defend a total against the likes of MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja.
In the chase of 214, Ayush Mhatre’s 94 and Ravindra Jadeja’s half-century brought the required equation down to 15 off the last over.
Dayal bowled three excellent deliveries in which he conceded only two runs and dismissed Dhoni. However, he then sent down a waist-height full toss to Shivam Dube, which the left-hander dispatched for a six. Yet, Dayal came out on top eventually as he conceded only three runs off the last three balls. And, similar to last year, Dayal ran in celebration with his arms outstretched.
MS Dhoni Takes the Blame of RCB Loss
Dhoni, who scored 12 runs off 8 balls, lamented not hitting a couple more boundaries.
The CSK skipper admitted, “When I went into bat, with the kind of deliveries and the runs needed, I felt I should’ve converted a couple more shots to ease the pressure. I take the blame.”
RCB vs CSK: Romario Shepherd was brilliant Says MS Dhoni
Dhoni lavished praise on Romario Shepherd for his outstanding half-century. Shepherd came in to bat when RCB were being pulled back by CSK, at the score of 157/5 at the 17.5 over mark. The West Indian hammered an unbelievable half-century, smoking 53 runs off only 14 balls with the help of four fours and two sixes.
The last two overs of RCB’s innings, of the bowling Matheesha Pathirana and Khaleel Ahmed, yielded the hosts 54 runs, out of which 52 came off Shepherd’s bat.
Dhoni added, “They got off to a good start; in between, we pulled it back, but Romario Shepherd was brilliant. Whatever the bowlers bowled, he was able to get maximum runs. We need to practice more yorkers.”
While RCB are at the top of the table and almost into the playoffs, CSK are at the bottom with only two wins in 11 games and fighting to avoid the wooden spoon.
