The groups for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup have been announced. This will be a revamped version of the competition that has been played since 2000. While the idea of this World Cup was to be like the Champions League on a global level, big clubs did not take it too seriously.
Now, FIFA has reworked the format and prestige of this tournament. Earlier, only a handful of teams used to qualify for this competition. But now it will adopt the format used for the FIFA World Cup, as 32 teams have made it to this tournament.
The competition will kick off after the end of the 2024-25 season, on June 14, and will last until July 13. The matches will be played in 12 stadiums all across the United States, while the final will be played at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Before the group draw, all teams were divided into four pots. One team from each pot would be in a group, of which there are eight. In the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, there are 12 UEFA (European) teams, six CONMEBOL (South American) slots, four CONCACAF (North American) slots, four CAF (African) slots, four AFC (Asian) slots, and one OFC (Oceania) slot. The final slot would go to one team from the hosting nation, which would be the United States. And the team that qualified for that spot was Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami.
Similar to how the FIFA World Cup has been organised till now, the 32 teams will be in eight groups of four teams each. All teams in a group will play each other in a round-robin, with the top two teams making it to the Round of 16.

FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Schedule
Some of the biggest matches in this competition will be between teams from Pot 1 and Pot 2, especially between European teams. From Group B, PSG vs Atlético Madrid will be a massive match, and so will Manchester City and Juventus.
Some major matches will also see European teams take on prominent American and Asian teams, like when Inter Miami takes on Porto or Real Madrid faces Al Hilal. River Plate vs Inter Milan will be a match between two teams that shaped the football culture in their respective continents over the past 100 years.
The tournament will also provide some truly David vs Goliath matchups, giving some smaller teams a chance to play some of the biggest clubs in the world, like how Auckland City from New Zealand will face Bayern Munich or the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns will take on Fluminense from Brazil and Borussia Dortmund.
Now that FIFA is looking to make the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup a tournament that would be looked forward to by fans, it remains to be seen whether it will rise in stature to the level of the competitions like the UEFA Champions League or the FIFA World Cup.
