Shivam Dube And SKY shine for Mumbai in SMAT: Indian Cricket Team stars Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube set the game ablaze as they steered Mumbai to victory in their most recent Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT).
SMAT is the highest-level domestic T20 tournament in India, where 30 teams from different states and government departments compete for the crown. Mumbai is in Elite Group E alongside heavyweight sides like Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra.
Mumbai, led by batter Ajinkya Rahane, took on Services in their most recent game in Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. It was Services who won the toss and decided to bowl first.
To open the batting for Mumbai, walked Prithvi Shaw and Ajinkya Rahane. Rahane, who is towards the end of his career, was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders in the recent IPL 2025 mega auction. Meanwhile, Shaw made headlines for the wrong reasons. At an age when his career should start peaking, he went unsold in the auction.

Here, Prithvi’s poor run of luck and form continued, as he departed for a duck, getting bowled on the third ball of the inning. Then, in walked Shreyas Iyer, who briefly became the most expensive player in IPL history when he was bought by the Punjab Kings for Rs. 26.75 crore last month.
Iyer and Rahane then batted together for some overs before Shreyas got out for 20 off 14. Then came Suryakumar Yadav, who, despite not being the captain of this team, is its most high-profile player as the captain of the Indian Cricket Team in T20Is.
Yadav batted with Ajikya through the powerplay. Rahane got out at the personal score of 22 off 18 as the team was 60/3 in the ninth over after his dismissal. At number five came Shivam Dube to bat, and the two national team batters started slogging.

In the next 11 overs, the two put up a 130-run partnership. While Suryakumar scored 70 runs off 46 deliveries, Dube scored 71 off 37. Here are some highlights of the destruction the two caused:
Mumbai ended up with a score of 192/4 at the end of 20 overs. In response, Services never looked like they were in the game. Captain Mohit Ahlawat scored an anchoring 50 for them as the team was bowled out for 153 in the 20th over. Mumbai won the match by 39 runs.
Shardul Thakur was the pick of the bowlers for the winners, finishing his four-over spell with the figures of 4/25. Shivam Dube was the player of the match for his fantastic inning and a three-over spell of 1/21.
Mumbai now has four wins in their five matches this season and is currently third in their group. As only two teams from each group make it to the next round, their next and final group game against Andhra is a must-win.
