PCB Accepts Hybrid Model For CT 2025: The International Cricket Council (ICC) held a meeting today to adjudicate the matter of the hosting duties of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Now, India will play all their matches in the competition in Dubai.
CT 2025 is returning to the calendar after eight years. The competition is set to kick off on February 19, with the final being played on March 9. Pakistan had won the bid to host the competition before a wrench was thrown in the works.
The Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) declared that the Indian Cricket Team would not be travelling to their neighbour to the west to participate in the competition. The board claimed that the decision was made by the Indian government and the reason given for not travelling was the security of players and staff.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had been adamant on the issue as well, claiming that either India would travel to their country to play in the Champions Trophy or India could not participate in the tournament at all. On the other hand, the BCCI proposed the use of a hybrid model, which would see the competition being played in Pakistan while India would play their games at a neutral venue.

Seeing that the tournament is just over two months away and how important the participation of India is to the event, the ICC called for a meeting today to make a final call on this whole situation.
And in a major development, PCB, with board chief Mohsin Naqvi, accepted the use of the hybrid model. Now, while the competition will be played in Pakistan, all of India’s matches will be played in Dubai. If the Men in Blue make it to the semifinals, that match will be played in Bubai as well; this also applies to the final. If India does not make it to the playoffs, all those matches will be played in Pakistan. The PCB will also receive the gate revenue for all the Indian games.
It was the Pakistan board that introduced hybrid models to modern cricket discourse when they applied them to the 2023 Asia Cup. While that competition was played in Pakistan, all of India’s matches, including the final, were played in Sri Lanka.
Pakistan will go into the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 as the defending champions, winning the last iteration of this competition in 2017. The tournament was dropped from the ICC calendar in 2021 and was replaced by the World Test Championship. However, it has now made a return.
