Barcelona striker Robert Levendowski is one of the best strikers in the world. The player returned to top form by netting 19 goals from 14 games across all the competitions.
In a recent interview with Forbes, the Polish powerhouse got candid about the age he is going to retire.
Levendowski Retirirng? Star Opens Up
Levendowski said that his career might end in two to three years and he will step down on his own terms.
“At my age now, I know that soon – two, three years, I don’t know exactly – it will be done, it will be finished.”
“I want to say, and only me, not anyone else, when the finish will be. When I wake up one day and feel I don’t want to go to the training session, that will be the first moment to start thinking about retiring.”
The 36-year-old revealed that he still feels a love for the game and enjoys going for training every day.
“Every morning when I’m waking up – and I hope it stays like this – I don’t feel any pain. And I still have the feeling that I love to go to the training session, to the club,” he shared.
Levendowski has his contract with the Catalans till 2026 and also has an option to extend his contract for another year. Barcelona is already rumored to be looking for a replacement for him, and Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyökeres are in the air. But Barca Sporting Director, despite mentioning the names of these two strikers, said that Barca don’t have any immediate plans to find a successor for Levendowki.
“I think it’s very difficult to find a striker like Robert today. There are one or two at this level. Maybe Haaland or another one,” he told Mundo Deportivo.
“Gyokeres is a good player, he’s been scoring goals for a long time in Portugal, we know him like others but he’s not our priority at the moment and we’re not looking for a number nine to replace Robert because we want him to remain happy, scoring goals and at least stay for another season.”
