All Lucknow Super Giants Retentions For IPL 2025: Having released captain KL Rahul, the Lucknow Super Giants have retained five players ahead of the IPl 2025 mega auction and have gone all in on retaining young stars.
With five players retained, LSG has one Right to Match (RTM) card left, which they can use to get back one of their many all-rounders.
With five players in the team, including two uncapped, the Super Giants have spent Rs. 51 crore in retentions, leaving 69 crores in their purse ahead of the auction. Here are all Lucknow Super Giants’ retentions for IPL 2025.
All Lucknow Super Giants Retentions For IPL 2025
1) Nicholas Pooran – 21 Crore
In somewhat of a shocking move, the Lucknow Super Giants have named Nicholas Pooran as their No. 1 retention pick. Not only that, he is being paid more than the 18 crore minimum fee for top retentions.
Now, Pooran is one of the most effective limited-overs batters in the world. Combine that with him being a great wicketkeeper, and the West Indian becomes a complete T20 package. This is something he has shown in his two seasons with LSG, where he has scored 857 runs in 29 games with an average of 42.85 and a strike rate of over 175. In 2024, he was his team’s best batter, scoring 499 runs with an average of over 62 and a strike rate of over 178.
With all that in mind, the Super Giants have bet big on Nicholas Pooran; some even suggest that he might be the team’s captain. And even if that might not be the case, the franchise is looing at the 29-year-old as their most impactful player for years to come.
2) Ravi Bishnoi – 11 Crore
Ravi Bishnoi was drafted by the Lucknow Super Giants before their first season in 2022. Since then, he has been consistently good for them.
Bishnoi is the highest wicket-taker for the Super Giants, scalping 39 wickets in 43 games across three seasons. During this time, he has also played several games for the national team. The spearhead of LSG’s bowling, he played a big role in the side reaching the playoffs for two seasons in a row in 2022 and 2023.
One of the few world-class wrist spinners in the IPL, LSG are wise to keep a hold of their leading leg-spinner.
3) Mayank Yadav – 11 Crore
Mayank Yadav is one of the most promising pacers in world cricket. And while he may have become capped just weeks before the retention, he would still be one of the most sought-after players if he went into the auction.
Mayank rocked the IPL when he made his debut for the Lucknow Super Giants against the Punjab Kings in 2024. Regularly bowling over 150 km/h, he bowled some of the fastest balls in IPL history, clocking in over 155 multiple times, doing so while keeping a good line and length.
Yadav won the Player of the Match in his first two IPL games before suffering an injury in the third. He would end up playing just one more game in the season. But despite having a history of injuries, he made his India debut against Bangladesh and did quite well.
The Lucknow Super Giants have retained a player who has a lot of hype around him and is in demand, but one that is injury-prone despite being very young.
4) Mohsin Khan – 4 Crore (Uncapped)
Mohsin Khan had an incredible debut season in the IPL, taking 14 wickets in just nine games. But since then, he has had scary run-ins with injury and illness.
Despite being a fantastic limited-overs pacer in domestic cricket and coming very close to an India call-up before getting injured in 2022, Mohsin did not have the best IPL 2024 where he took 10 wickets in as many matches with a 10+ economy. Still, he is a promising young pacer with the ability to win his team matches.
5) Ayush Badoni – 4 Crore (Uncapped)
Ayush Badoni has been a regular for the Lucknow Super Giants since their first season in 2022. And while he has shown flashes of brilliance, he is yet to have his breakout season.
A fine domestic batter who has even done well for India A, Badoni is an excellent finisher, a role that LSG is looking to fill with the young star. And while the franchise has shown faith in him by retaining Ayush, he is yet to consistently score big and quick runs in the IPL. However, his brilliant form in the Lehi Premier League earlier this year is a great sign.
Big Players Not Retained
In the biggest piece of news coming out of the Lucknow Supr Giants, captain KL Rahul has not been retained by the team. However, this has been somewhat of an open secret for a while. Despite being the team’s highest run scorer in their short history, Rahul seemingly has had a falling out with the team ownership.
Other big players that LSG have not retained are Australian all-rounder and match-winner Marcus Stoinis; South African wicketkeeper-opener Quinton de Kock; all-rounder Krunal Pandya; and Afghanistan pacer Naveen Ul Haq.
