Shami Added to the Squad for the Australia Series: In a highly optimistic development for the Indian cricket team, senior seamer Mohammed Shami will be making his comeback to competitive cricket through Bengal’s upcoming Ranji Trophy fixture against Madhya Pradesh in Indore, starting on November 13.
If he manages to prove his fitness by sustaining throughout the game, the speedster could be flown to Australia, opening up the possibility of his participation in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25.

On November 12, Shami was added to Bengal’s squad to take on MP in Indore. The 34-year-old has not played any competitive cricket since last year’s World Cup final against Australia in Ahmedabad, which India lost. Shami finished as the leading wicket-taker of the tournament but since then has been sidelined due to an ankle injury, with which he played in the World Cup and required surgery in March.
The Cricket Association of Bengal said in their statement, “In a major boost to Indian cricket and the Bengal Ranji Trophy team, star pacer Mohammad Shami will make a comeback into competitive cricket for Bengal against Madhya Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group C match in Indore starting on Wednesday.”
However Shami Added to the Squad for the Australia Series, He will spearhead the Bengal pace bowling attack against MP, and his presence in the side will “lift the morale of the entire team,” which has earned only eight points in four games and seems to be struggling to make it to the knockouts.

Shami will be keen to go through the entire Ranji match without any discomfort. While he’s not been named in the squad for the Test series in Australia, he could be added to it. The first Test of the series will get underway on November 22 in Perth, and the second Test, a day-night contest in Adelaide, is scheduled to kick off on December 6, for which Shami could be available.
As per Shami Added to the Squad for the Australia Series, If indeed he is flown to Australia, Shami could feature in the India A vs Prime Ministers XI two-day match from November 30 in Canberra, which would give the management further idea about his fitness and bowling rhythm. Shami’s potential presence against Australia would prove to be a massive boost for India, considering that Mohammed Siraj has been out of form and Akash Deep and Prasidh Krishna are on their first Test tour to Australia.
Shami was a key contributor to India’s maiden Test series win in Australia in the 2018/19 series. Then in the 2020/21 series, he played in the first Test match but missed the rest of the series due to a hand injury.
