Ravichandran Ashwin Dismisses Devon Conway: Ravichandran Ashwin took his third wicket on Day One of the Indian Cricket Team’s ongoing second Test match against New Zealand, dismissing a dangerous-looking Devon Conway.
The second India vs New Zealand Test match of the three-match series is currently underway. The match, which saw the Kiwis win the toss and decide to bat first, is being played at a spin-friendly track at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune.
In what has been an otherwise frustrating morning for Indians in the field, Ashwin has been the lone bright star for the home team. In just the eighth over of the inning, he caught captain Tom Latham in front of the stumps and dismissed him.
Then, in the 24th over, he broke the steady partnership between Devon Conway and Will Young. In the last ball of the over, he bowled it down the leg side to Young. While Ashwin and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant were not interested in appealing for the wicket, Sarfaraz Khan standing at forward short leg was.
Sarfaraz, helped by Virat Kohli, convinced captain Rohit Sharma to take a review. UltraEdge then showed that the ball had slightly clipped Young’s gloves, and thus ‘Anna’ took his second wicket of the day. The session then ended with a score of 92/2.
Immediately following the lunch break, Conway reached his half-century. On what otherwise was a track that looked dangerous for the batters, Conway was moving the scoreboard with ease and looking good doing so.

Anchoring the New Zealand innings now alongside Rachin Ravindra, the Chennai Super Kings opener steadily scored runs and went past the 70-run mark with an eye on a three-figure score. Then came the 44th over with Ashwin again on the attack.
On the second ball of the over, after playing beautifully throughout the morning, Devon Conway seemed to have lost his concentration and edged the ball that was moving away from him while looking to play towards Gully.
Heaving scored 76-off-141, and Devon Conway was out as New Zealand’s score was 138/3 and became Ravichandran Ashwin’s third wicket of the day. Ashwin, who had already become the highest wicket-taker in World Test Championship history with his second wicket of Will Young, has been excellent all morning.
