Pundit Aakash Chopra asked if India will consider Cheteshwar Pujara for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. The 5-match Test series will resume on 22 November in Perth, Australia.
Background
Cheteshwar Pujara has been a synonym of class in red-ball cricket. He is in incredible form and hit a record-breaking double-century in the Saurashtra-Chhattisgarh clash in the Ranji Trophy, scoring 234 runs from 383 balls. By this, he rose to the fourth in the list of most double centuries in first-class cricket. It was Pujara’s 18th double ton and only Don Bradman (37), Wally Hammond (36), and Patsy Hendren (22) are ahead of him.
Pujara was also a standout performer on India’s last visit to Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. The 36-year-old though wasn’t selected for India’s recent Test series against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
Aakash Chopra Asks If India Will Take Cheteshwar Pujara for Border-Gavaskar Trophy
Aakash Chopra points out these key things and asks whether India includes Pujara in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
“Will India consider him for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy? The series before the last one was Pujara’s series. However, last time as well, everyone forgets that while breaking Gabba’s pride his entire body had turned blue by continuously getting hit by balls,” he said on his YouTube channel.
Another important thing Chopra said is India’s lack of defensive batters. The Indian team had failed to draw the match and met a humiliating 8-wicket loss in the last Test match against New Zealand. This has shown the need for a defensive batter who can help make the match a draw if a win is out of the question.
“So there too Pujara was there and you don’t see a defensive batter in this entire team. Is India still thinking? I am not sure they are but should they?” Chopra added.
