Didier Deschamps Reacts to Paul Pogba Ban Reduction: French national football team coach Didier Deschamps reacted to Paul Pogba’s football ban being cut short to 18 months. Earlier, the player was awarded a 4-year ban from professional football due to failing a drug test.
Later, Pogba went for an appeal in CAS and successfully proved that the substance went to his digestive system without his knowing. He also alleged that an American doctor who treats a lot of famous people had prescribed him some medicines. Following the hearing, CAS has cut his ban short to 18 months.

Deschamps called CAS’s news ‘humanly’ an excellent one. He also admitted that he had a long conversation with Pogba during his tough times. He was talking in an interview with the France Football Federation
“I’ve spoken on the phone with him for a long time during this challenging period for him. Obviously, it’s very, very, positive news for him. At least now, he knows he can return to play football in March. There will be a time, from January to March, when he’ll have to do a lot of specific work. It’s a relief for him, and I am happy for him too. It’s still a heavy sanction, but 18 months is less harsh than the initial four years. Some steps must be taken, but it’s excellent news humanly.”
Despite talking about his availability for the players who go through difficult times, and Pogba’s return to play football in March 2025, Deschamps didn’t mention clearly about the future of him in the France squad. But from his wordings, the French coach is all positive about Pogba’s return to football.
“In the meantime, there will be discussions with his club, Juventus, his current employer. But at least he knows that in March 2025, he can return to playing. He loves football so much. I ensure I remain in contact with and support all the players. I’ve known Paul from the very start, but when there are complicated moments, injuries, private issues, or suspensions like this one, the players know that I am available at any time and can communicate with them and with him in this case. It’s essential to me, without knowing what will happen tomorrow. This kind of support is natural in the relationship of trust that I feel I have with the players,” Deschamps added.
