India Thrashes Bangladesh In 1st T20I: Several young stars shined as India dominated Bangladesh in the first of three T20Is to be played between the two teams, defeating the Bangla Tigers by seven wickets with 49 balls to spare.
The first India vs Bangladesh T20I was played on Sunday, October 6 in Gwalior’s
Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium. The home side won the toss and decided to bowl first on this fine track.

The Indian Cricket Team had two debutants in their squad. First is all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, who was the IPL 2024 Emerging Player of the Tournament playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. The second was Mayank Yadav, the young pacer who rocked the IPL with his sheer pace while playing for the Lucknow Super Giants. This was Yadav’s first match since April when he got injured while playing for LSG.
Arshdeep Singh started India’s bowling and scalped star opener Litton Das in the first over, a fine start to the game. Arshdeep doubled up in the third over as he dismissed the second opener in Parvez Hossain Emon.
Varun Chakravarthy was in the India squad too, playing for the national team for the first time since the 2021 T20 World Cup. He took Bangladesh’s third wicket in Towhid Hridoy. Then came Mayank, who didn’t quite breach the 150 km/h barrier on the day but impressed with his bowling nonetheless. The Delhi-based fast bowler took his first international wicket on debut, and he cleaned up the experienced Mahmudullah.
At this point, Bangladesh was reeling at 43/4 in the eighth over. And just balls before the halfway point of the inning, the fifth wicket fell. In what was the most picturesque wicket of the day, Chakravarthy foxed Jaker Ali, threading the ball between his bat and pad as the batter was bowled all ends up.

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, who had anchored the inning so far, was then dismissed by Washington Sundar in the 12th over. The pace was picked up a little over the past couple of overs, as the score was 75/6 at the time of Shanto’s wicket. But the inning slowed down once more after it as wickets kept falling regularly.
Bangladesh was all out for 127 in the 20th over. As the pitch was not too difficult to bat on, this would be an easy target for the Men in Blue.
Sanju Samson came in to open the inning alongside Abhishek Sharma. After hitting a fabulous six to declare the team’s intent, Abhishek was run out.
And then came captain Suryakumar Yadav, who had no intention of slowing things down. While Samson rotated the strike and sprinkled in some aesthetically beautiful boundaries in between, SKY came out with all guns blazing, looking to send every ball out of the park.
After scoring a quickfire 29-off-14, Surya departed. But at this point, India’s score had reached 65/2 in the sixth over. The team reached the halfway mark within the powerplay itself.
It was Nitish Kumar Reddy who came out to bat next, followed by Sanju’s wicket soon after. At the time the wicketkeeper was dismissed, India was 80/3 at the end of eight overs. So when Hardik Pandya came out to bat, the team was already cruising. But the star all-rounder decided to pick the pace up even more.
Hardik came on the strike and commenced some very stylish hitting, scoring boundaries every other delivery and looking good doing so. This was highlighted by two shots. One was his no-look four to the third man off Taskin Ahmed. Pandya just stepped back, played an uppercut, and didn’t even peek at the ball after playing his shot.
The second shot was the one that won India the game. In the same over (12th), Hardik Pandya dragged the ball that was a bit outside and hit a dominant pull that sailed over the fielders and into the stands. India’s score was 132/3 in 11.5 overs, winning the game by seven wickets with 49 balls to spare. Arshdeep Singh was named the Player of the Match for his 3/14 spell.
The Indian Cricket Team will face Bangladesh in the second T20I of the series on Wednesday, October 9 in Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium.
