Sreesanth On India Womens Team World Cup Chances: Former Indian cricketer turned commentator S Sreesanth has predicted that the Indian Womens Cricket Team will win the 2024 Womens T20 World Cup, claiming that the team has a brilliant squad and an excellent coach.
The Women’s T20 World Cup has kicked off in the UAE. The tournament started on October 3, as Bangladesh defeated Scotland and Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka on the opening day. The final will be played on 20th October, making it an 18-day competition.
India will start their campaign today as they face New Zealand at the Dubai International Stadium at 7:30 PM IST. The Women in Blue are in a tough Group A alongside the Kiwis, defending champions Australia, arch-rivals Pakistan, and defending Asia Cup winners Sri Lanka.
While India comes into this competition in fine form, their last game before the World Cup was a disappointing loss. This year, India has defeated Bangladesh and South Africa in different series. Then, in the Aisa Cup, the team went to the final undefeated but lost to the Lankan Lionesses in the final in a disappointing fashion.
However, in the warm-up games for the World Cup, India defeated the West Indies and South Africa fairly comfortably.
India has a squad filled with superstars going into this tournament. Captained by Harmanpreet Kaur and coached by Amol Majumdar, this team has the likes of Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma, and Shafali Verma, some of the best cricketers in the world.

So it is not surprising that many fans and experts in India are optimistic about the team’s chances in this World Cup. Many believe India has a realistic chance of winning the whole thing, one of those people being S Sreesanth.
In a recent interaction with Star Sport, the former Indian pace bowler discussed India’s chances in the 2024 Womens T20 World Cup. Speaking about the strongest aspects of the team, he said,
“This squad is really brilliant. First of all, I will say the captain to the entire team. The supporting staff is so great, and more than that, Amol bhai (Muzumdar), who is the coach, he is a beautiful human being and a great personality. So I have full belief the team will return after winning the World Cup.”
Sreesanth then went on to claim that if this team has belief in themselves, they are good enough to beat any team in the world and become world champions, saying,
“I also watched the press conference where the coach and captain Harmanpreet (Kaur) were extremely confident. Especially when they were asked about Australia, they said if their team plays to their full potential, they will defeat any team, and that’s the truth. It’s all about the belief system. I am very confident that this team will win the World Cup.”
This is the ninth iteration of the Women’s T20 World Cup. Having first been played in 2009, this tournament has been won by Australia six out of eight times so far, with England and the West Indies having won once each. India’s best performance came in the 2020 edition, reaching the final but losing to the Aussies by 85 runs.
