Manchester United met with a shocking tie against Dutch club FC Twente in their Europa League fixture on September 25.
United took the lead in the 35th minute through a smasher from Christan Eriksen. Replying to that, in the 68th minute, Sam Lammers’ scored a wonder by running through the United defense. The match ended 1-1 with both teams gaining a point each.
Ten Hag Slams United Players for Twente Defeat
The embarrassing thing for Manchester United is their inability to defeat even a lower-level team like Dante. In the post-match presser, Ten Hag came with his usual response and slammed the players for not doing much in the second half.
“The goal, it’s [a] team [mistake], a player of Twente can dribble through almost the whole pitch, or half the pitch, without stopping. That is not acceptable, we can’t give a goal away like this. We have seen, again, you have to keep going for the whole game; once you are 1-0 up you have to keep going and go for the second [goal].”
The Dutchman also owned the responsibility of the defeat rather than dumping it all on the players.
“I can offer mentality is very good from this team. I saw in many games how high our work rate is, but today I have some criticism. It is not only the team, I have to look in the mirror as well. I am part of it. We have to be more clinical in such situations.”
