Tamim Iqbal Talks On Sporadic Bowling By Shakib: Bangladesh star-batter Tamim Iqbal comments on Shakib Al Hasan bowling only sporadically in the first of two Test matches against India and questions whether the team management knew that the all-rounder was injured.
The first India vs Bangladesh Test is being played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The visitors won the toss and decided to bowl, immediately toppling the Indian top order within the first 10 overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal (56) and Rishabh Pant (39) played valiant innings; the inning was truly saved by the all-rounders of duo Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. While the former scored a brilliant century, the latter scored 86 runs to take the Men in Blue to 376 runs.
While the Bangladesh Cricket Teampace attack did quite well at the start of Day 1, the wickets dried up towards the end of that day. In terms of spinners, all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz bowled the majority of overs.

Shakib, who is the ace of the team’s spin department, only came in to bowl in the 53rd over, not taking any wickets and conceding 50 runs in just eight overs in that inning.
He did come out to bat at number 6 for the BanglaTigers, scoring the inning-high 32 as the team collapsed for 149. In the third inning, it was rather the same with Shakib, who came in to bowl late, bowled way less than Miraz, gave away 79 runs, and took no wickets in 13 overs.

Tamim Iqbal, who is currently out of the Test squad and is hence doing commentary, was not pleased with Shakib Al Hasan’s bowling efforts in this match, revealing that the 37-year-old might be suffering from an injured finger and an issue with his shoulder.
“I was very surprised that Shakib didn’t come and bowl, and then I got some info from one of our fellow commentators; Murali Karthik was having a word with him. Apparently, he is having some issues with his finger, which had a surgery, and he is having an issue with his shoulder,” said Tamim in the comm box.
Iqbal further questioned the Bangladesh team’s management, saying that they should have known about the injury before the match and that the situation should have been properly communicated with the team, saying,
“So I believe the team management should have known this before the Test matches because if he was not communicated properly, that means Bangladesh is playing with four bowlers, which is very unfortunate.”
On Day 3, India batted well as Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill scored tons. Declaring at 287/4 in the third inning, the Indian Cricket Team gave Bangladesh a target of 515 in the last inning. At the end of the day’s play, Bangladesh is at 158/4. As Shakib and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto remain not out, the team needs 357 runs to win the game.
