Zaheer Khan Is The New LSG Mentor: Former Indian cricketer Zaheer Khan has been named the mentor of the Lucknow Super Giants franchise for the 2025 season of the IPL.
When LSG first came to be in 2022, current Indian Cricket Team head coach Gautam Gambhir was the team’s mentor. In the two years he was with the side, the Super Giants made it to the playoffs in both seasons, in 2022 and 2023.
Ahead of the 2024 season, Gambir moved to Kolkata Knight Riders as the mentor of a team he once captained. This season, head coach Andy Flower also left the team and was replaced by former Australian better Justin Langar, while the mentor spot was left vacant.
After two seasons of finishing third on the table, LSG finished seventh out of 10 in the league table, despite winning half of their matches and getting as many points as the fourth-placed Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Over the last few days, rumours and reports have emerged that Zaheer Khan will be brought in as a mentor of the Lucknow Super Giants. Today, this was announced in an event that also featured franchise owner Sanjay Goenka of the RPSG Group.
Zaheer is one of the finest pace bowlers in the history of Indian cricket and one of the finest swing bowlers in the world in the 2000s. The 45-year-old played 92 Tests for India, taking a whopping 311 wickets in them, becoming the second-highest wicket-taking fast bowler in Indian Test history. He also played in 200 ODIs for India, taking 282 wickets at a sub-30 average.
In what was his brightest moment as a player, Khan was the joint-highest wicket taker in the 2011 ODI World Cup, playing a key role in India’s first World Cup win in 28 years.
Zaheer Khan also has some experience with IPL team management, being a behind-the-scenes figure for sides like Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals in the past. He was also a bowling consultant for Team India at one point in 2017.
Zaheer will fill a massive hole in the Lucknow Super Giants team management. Not only does the team have a mentor, but they have now also lost their bowling coach, Morne Morkel, who has joined Gautam Gambhir’s team to become India’s bowling coach.
