Title Matches Announced For SmackDown Next Week: Two major championship matches have been announced for next week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown in what is gearing up to be a memorable episode of WWE TV.
This week’s episode of the Blue Brand featured great matches, nice story progressions, and an awesome buildup for the next week. This week, we saw Nia Jax’s celebration after winning the WWE Women’s Championship at SummerSlam. We also saw Kevin Owens teasing tensions with WWE Champion Cody Rhodes; and Roman Reigns getting beat down by the Bloodline.
Title Matches Announced For SmackDown Next Week
But we now have our eyes on the future, as two title matches have been announced for next week’s SmackDown. Firstly, during a pre-recorded segment with Legado Del Fantasma, Santos Escobar announced that he will be facing LA Knight for the United States Championship next week.
The two kicked off a feud with an in-ring segment last week, where Escobar interrupted Knight’s celebration for defeating Logan Paul and winning the title at SummerSlam.
This week, after the US title match was announced for the next episode, LA Kight came out to cut his signature style promo, confirming the match will indeed take place.
The second title match came via what was the main event contest on the night. Last week, a tournament for the No. 1 contendership of the WWE Tag Team Championships began. The Street Profits and DIY won their opening matches to face each other in the final, with the winner facing The Bloodline for the tag titles next week.
In what was one of the better TV matches in WWE this year, the four men tore the house down in Orlando, Florida. Towards the end of the match, Johnny Gargano of DIY hit Angelo Dawkins with a superkick, which transitioned into a Fairy Tale Ending by Tommaso Ciampa; despite the tag team finisher, Dawkins kicked out. Soon after, the Street Profits hit Gargano with the Blockbuster off the top rope to win the match and become the No. 1 contender for SmackDown’s Tag Team titles.
Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins will challenge Tama Tonga and Jacob Fatu of The Bloodline for the tag titles next week to win their first championships since 2021.
Speaking of Jacob Fatu, he returned to WWE TV despite reports of him breaking his ankle just before SummerSlam. He returned during the final segment of the episode. As Roman Reigns laid out Tama Tonga and Solo Sikoa, Fatu returned with a cast shoe over his injured foot and single-handedly laid a beatdown on the Head of the Table.
This might come into play during next week’s tag team title match, as Reigns might distract The Bloodline into losing the match to the Street Profits.
Suffice it to say, SmackDown has become a must-watch show after the Biggest Party of the Summer. After some excellent wrestling this week, we can expect some more on that, topped by some intriguing storylines next week as well.
