For the first time in 27 years, India couldn’t win a bilateral series in Sri Lanka. The streak has broken after India tumbled into the canvas in the 2nd ODI by not having an answer to Sri Lanka’s spin attack.
India Forgot to Bat Spin, Says Pak Cricketer
Following the match, Pakistan cricketer Baith Ali opined that, like Pakistan, the Men in Blue have also forgotten to handle the spin.
“I feel after Pakistan, India have also forgotten how to bat against the spinners. Maybe because the focus was more on T20s. I feel sad seeing Shivam Dube’s dismissal. He couldn’t even read it from the hand. Washington Sundar got out in similar fashion in the first match.”
Basit also suggested keeping Dube away from the ODIs. Dube couldn’t make a single run and seemed confused in handling the deliveries. According to Basit, without Hardik Pandya or Ravindra Jadeja, the Indian ODI team still remains incomplete.
“Keep Shivam Dube only for T20s, don’t pick for the ODIs. Or, make him play 50-over matches in domestic cricket first. India’s ODI team cannot be complete without Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja.”
Basit also has a suggestion for the Indian coach Gautam Gambhir. He feels that Axar Patel should have sent ahead of Shivam Dube.
“Gautam Gambhir is using the wrong combination. If he wanted to use the left-right combo, Axar Patel could have come ahead and then Rishabh Pant could have played. Instead of Dube, play two wicketkeepers.”
