Rahul Dravid Discusses Cricket At 2028 Olympics: Former head coach of the Indian National Cricket Team, Rahul Dravid, backs the inclusion of cricket in the Olympics and is looking forward to the sport featuring at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Dravid, who most recently coached India to a win in the 2024 T20 World Cup, the nation’s first World Cup win in 13 years, following which his tenure as the head coach ended as he went out on top.
A couple of years ago, it was announced that cricket would be returning to the Olympics for the first time since the 1900 Games in Paris. Back then, only Great Britain and France participated in the event, making it one of the very few events in Olympic history where no one won the bronze medal.
Rahul Dravid, who was a part of the Indian dressing room as the head coach when the return of cricket in the 2028 Olympics was announced, described how the team and the players were excited about the prospect of becoming Olympians.

On a recent appearance as a guest on ‘Cricket at the Olympics: Dawn of a New Era’, the 51-year-old described how the players will be looking forward to the Olympic experience, saying,
“People are going to want to win that gold medal, stand on the podium, and be a part of the Games Village, a great sporting event, and interact with so many athletes. As you get closer, I have no doubt that teams will be preparing and checking out facilities. They will take this seriously, and players will fight tooth and nail to be out there.”
He further went on to say that players in the dressing room are keeping the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics on a similar level to the 2026 T20 World Cup and the 2027 ODI World Cup.

“I’ve already heard a few conversations in the dressing room. People are talking about the 2026 T20 World Cup; there is an ODI World Cup in 2027, and you hear people saying there is the Olympics in 2028,” said Dravid.
Rahul Dravid also brought forth his wish to be a part of the 2028 Games in some capacity, maybe as a media person, he said in a joking manner.
“Unfortunately, I won’t be able to play, but I will make every effort to be in LA in some capacity or another. If not anything else, I will try to get a media job.”
Finally, he concluded by wishing for a fantastic tournament for the Indian men’s and women’s cricket teams four years from now.
“The dream for me to have a fantastic cricket tournament, hopefully, Indian men and women winning the gold, which would be nice. But more than that, I wish for everyone here… So many Indian fans would be able to come there to LA and support cricket and show the rest of the world how big and great a sport cricket is,” he concluded.
India will likely participate in both men’s and women’s cricket at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The presence of the sport has also been confirmed for the 2032 Olympics in Brisbane, Australia.
