India To Host 2025 ACC Asia Cup: India is set to host the 2025 Asia Cup in the T20 format, marking the first time the nation will host this competition in 34 years.
The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has confirmed the location of the 2025 tournament. They released the Invitation for Expression of Interest (IEOI) for the nations and boards who will be participating in the competition.
The tournament will be a precursor to the 2026 T20 World Cup, with heavyweights like India and Pakistan and prospect teams like Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh participating.

“The details, including but not limited to the schedules, dates, years, formats, and/or venues, regarding the ACC Tournaments given below are tentative and may be subject to change at anytime at the absolute discretion of ACC and without any liability to ACC,” read the IEOI document.
This will be the first time that this competition will be played in India since 1990/91. The fourth edition of the Asia Cup was played between just three teams: India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. With Mohammad Azharuddin as the Indian captain, India defeated the Lankans in a rain-affected final.
Since then, there have been 12 editions of the Asia Cup. Three have been played in the UAE, three have been played in Sri Lanka, four have been played in Bangladesh, and two have been played in Pakistan, including the 2023 one. However, the 2024 edition was partly played in Sri Lanka, including the final.

India will go into the 2025 Asia Cup as the defending champion. The 2023 tournament was in the ODI format and was a prelude to the 2023 ODI World Cup. Rohit Sharma captained the team to their eighth Asia Cup win in 16 events, defeating Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the final.
In the 2025 tournament, Rohit Sharma will not be playing after retiring from T20Is after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup. With Suryakumar Yadav being named the new T20I captain, it is likely that he will captain the team going into that competition.
The 2027 Asia Cup, which will revert back to the ODI format and will be a prelude to the 2027 ODI World Cup, is being planned to be hosted by Bangladesh.
