Suryakumar Reflects on T20 Word Cup Final Catch: It’s been just a month since one of the most joyous moments hit Indian cricket. Yes, you are right! The 2024 T20 World Cup glory. After 11 years of drought, the tri-color flag stood high at the end of a major ICC tournament.
The last time India had kissed an ICC trophy was in 2013, when the historic team led by MS Dhoni bagged the Champions Trophy of that year, just 2 years after the spectacular 2011 ODI World Cup win. After those 5-6 years of golden age, which also included the winning of the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, the Indian team have been one of the biggest bottlers in ICC tournaments.
The stress has been heavy due to not winning a title in all these years, despite being the favorites in many. And it was visible on the faces of players, and that could be one of the reasons that hindered winning titles all these years. But now, all that stress has been busted by Rohit Sharma & Co. by writing their name on the 2024 T20 World Cup.
In the final, batting first, India put forward a decent total of 176, with Virat Kohli’s incredible batting performance of 76/59. South Africa was returning the favor in the chase, and they needed 16 runs from the final over, and David Miller was on the crease. The Proteas batter is capable of turning matches around by himself, and in that nail-biting moment, in the over by Hardik Pandya, Miller hit the ball for six. The ball seemingly could go past the boundary line, but the spectacular catch from Suryakumar Yadav changed the whole course of the game.
SKY held the ball in his hand but left the ball as he stepped outside the line to balance himself. But he stepped inside quickly to hold the ball again to complete the catch before the ball touched the ground.

Reflecting on the catch after a month in a video released by BCCI, the moment will remain with him forever.
“This will stay with me forever because I’ve done those things in my practice sessions a lot. But I didn’t think that it will come at that moment, World Cup final and that situation. I’m very grateful for that to be doing something special on a special occasion. But yeah, as you said that will remain with me forever. It won’t be a one-month challenge or a one-year challenge. I think it will be for a lifetime.”
What’s Next for Suryakumar Yadav?
