As the rumors around the much hyped-up India vs Sri Lanka series are flying around the internet, another big news popped up as the Bib B’s of Indian cricket, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, are likely available for the One Day Internationals.
Virat Kohli to Play in India vs Sri Lanka ODIs
The report came in the Indian Express, and it says that both stars have already informed the BCCI about their availability. This will give some twists and turns to the equations that have already been cooked up recently.
KL Rahul Will Not Lead the ODI Side
Initially, it was reported that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli would be given a much-needed rest, and India would have different captains for ODIs and T20Is for the Lankan series. KL Rahul was the name that was loud on the internet to lead the Men in Blue in ODIs. But as Rohit is most likely coming back, he will continue to steer the gear as the skipper of the team.
Not Hardik Pandya! Suryakumar Yadav to Lead the T20I Side
Again, initial reports were suggesting Hardik Pandya’s name to lead a young India side in the Sri Lanka T20Is. But things took a U-turn, and now Suryakumar Yadav will have the hot seat in Lanka as the selection committee has long-term plans for the batter. But again, the selection committee has informed BCCI that they are open to replacing Suruyakumar if his performance becomes unsatisfactory.
As reported by The Indian Express, Panday has already been spoken to by the board and the selectors to make him understand their plans with Suryakumar Yadav.
Shreyas Iyer May Get the Call He Wants
Shreyas Iyer has been out of the national team as BCCI was reluctant to give him the central contract due to a lack of activity in domestic cricket. But the young player showed his worth by leading the Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL 2024 trophy. This may change BCCI’s mind, and the board may call him back for the India vs Sri Lanka series. The fact that Gautam Gambhir, who was the mentor of the winning KKR team and is India’s head coach now, might help to get his long-awaited seat.
Pant Will be in Both ODI and T20Is; No Bumrah
Rishabh Pant is reported to be in both the ODI and T20I teams, but it’s still unclear who will be India’s number-one keeper in both formats. It’s also still not known if Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson will get a call or not.
Yashaswi Jaiswal in T20Is, Riyan Parag for Both Formats
Yahsaswi Jaiswal, who was in spectacular form in the recently ended Zimbabwe T20Is, will be opening for India against Lanka in the shortest format. The surprising entry, though, would be for Riyan Parag to feature in both of India’s ODI and T20I lineups. Parag’s stronghold in the middle order and the ability to bowl are pluses for Team India.
